..Dude where's my LIFE?
Do you ever get that unprecedented feeling of unease, what they call deja-vu? You feel as if you have already been through whatever is at hand at that moment in time.. in my case I usually feel that I have dreamed of something way before it actually takes place. The scary thing is that a lot of minor details are also there, like for example an insignificant length of coloured ribbon tied to a branch on a plant in a pot lying on the window sill in the background of the room..Well I do get these moments, flashbacks or whatever we want to call them. And inevitably I start wondering if there really are multiple dimensions and if the space-time continuum can really play tricks on us. Tricks like branching off a life at a certain point in time.. in one branch the life goes ahead as it was meant to, as planned so to speak, whilst in others it takes different twists; some for the better and others not so much.
When I look back and try to recollect where I saw my life heading when I was a teenager and in my later youth, I can barely recognize that life. I did not give certain things much thought in all fairness - I probably assumed that they "would take care of themselves" just as they had, to my young mind, taken care of themselves for my parents and my relatives and for all the other "grown-ups".
I am a grown-up now, a few white hairs here and there bear witness to that fact, but I get these moments of temporal unease of some sort and soon later it just dawns on me; things have not taken care of themselves and I am not even close to where I assumed I would be in life. It is as if that life, the one I always envisaged, has branched off somewhere along the way and left me with, well, this.. whatever I am living now. I wish I could have a monitor like they had on "the Fringe" to look into other dimensions. If I could catch a glimpse of myself through it I would call out with all the air I can muster in my lungs:
"Dude!!!!! Where's my LIFE??????"
