Rest in Peace Jack LaLanne - dead at 96
Apparently, unfotunately, even a proper diet and very good exercise can't keep one going forever. If you don't believe this, here's the evidence. Yesterday, Jack LaLanne died from pneumonia. It's a very common killer of the elderly. He was 96 years young.I remember that for decades he would celebrate his birthday by tugging boats. He would swim and the number of boats he would tug behind him was his age. So, for example for his 70th birthday, while he was handcuffed & shackled, he fought strong winds and currents and towed 70 rowboats while swimming a mile, from the Queen’s Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to the Queen Mary. Don't try this at home.
I'm not making that up. He really did that on his 70th birthday.
What an amazing positive influence on so many people. Name another person who hosted a TV show for 34 years ! And on fitness ?! This guy was THE fitness guru, long before fitness was even recognized as something positive. He was a leader. He later hawked juicers to help peoples diets and that didn't work out as well. While he sold lots of juicers, due to mechanical design problems some caused injury to the buyers. But on his fitness show he promoted doing exercise with what you already had at home, a chair, the floor, the wall, etc..
Well Jack, may you rest in peace....or if you believe in fantasies, maybe he's getting the folks in heaven in shape,
I'm not sure.

If anyone can get the departed souls in shape it would be Jack.
M - I remember as a tot doing the exercises along with him while watching his show. Perhaps he started me off on the path to fitness.
exercise is also good for our emotional health in helping us feel great about ourselves. do you know what the last year of his fitness shows were? you mentioned he was on tv for 36 years?
HB - I think my mom watched him too.
