Libya.

I have been watching the news covering the events currrently ongoing in Libya. Thankfully the Uk is evacuating its citizens as is other countries. What surprises me is the call (from some) for the west to do more and get more involved. There are two reasons why i believe this to be wrong. Firstly the past has shown us that people that we have helped in the past have sadly become enemies and aggressors further down the line. Secondly, however well intentioned the west would only be accused of being involved in something that it has no business being involved in or just trying to control the oil supplies. I feel real sympaphy for any innocent victims but hope and believe that all my government should do is protect its own people and stay out of it.

i totally agree i would bet money are government wouldn't get involved in that we didn't in egypt . we shouldn't their were already stretched thin in iraq and afghanistan which was a huge mistake . the trillions of dollars we spend getting in other countries business we could of bought a million oil fields .laugh plus we gots vast oil supplies here all over texas alaska off shore drilling . which you see how great for the environment that is poor animals.very mad i wish we'd spend trillions helping animals the environment and nature . then people or countries who don't even appreciate it anyway . it's just like a cop everyone hates them when their writing you a traffic ticket laugh but just wait if someones kicking your head in trying to rob you or worse your wondering wheir the hell they are you love them then. lol
That sums it up perfectly, help us remove this hated dictator but once this is done it reverts back to the big bad west. The lives lost in Iraq and Afganistan and also the billions of pounds spent, and for what, what has or will be achieved.
totally agreeing with you nothing all we did is get a dictator out of iraq militaryly which cost us trillions of dollars i believe were spending 56 million dollarss everyday were their that's the past what 8yrs now.wow how many barrels of oil would that add up to.laugh just think what would of happened in iraq if the people stood up to saddam. sadly i think we'll find that answer out in iran.uh oh it's about people wanting to be free freedom to live your life not oil fields or money .doh this is the tip of the iceburg mark my words oppressed peoples are fed up big time their sick, of it.
We saw this happen in eastern Europe, once it started in one country others followed. What happens in Iran will be critical and more importantly how Israel reacts to it. I love my own freedom and probably take it for granted but understand other peoples desire to have there own freedom but it is those people who will achieve this, our involvment will not be required or in the long run be appreciated.
your right us having very good freedoms you almost take it for granted . it's going to be a mess in that region sometimes i think we invaded iraq just to have a presence in the region . jmo the price of a gallon of gas went up 14 cents here because what's happening in libya they their not a big player it's a small country i did read gadafi has hired outside mercenaries guns for hire. they get trigger happy blood thirsty cuz it's not their country or people . like you said it's their business but alot of people are going to die i guess freedom isn't free.
Sky news showed pictures earlier of alleged merceneries from other coutries hired by Gaddafi. Regarding oil prices if the people of Saudi Arabia start to ask for there freedom and take to the streets then who knows what effect that will have on the world economy. Fuel prices here are high already having risen from 80 pence a litre to £1.30 a litre in less than 3 years if the Saudi people take to the streets i dread to think what it will increase to. I know the bigger picture is much more important than how it affects me but as i have a short commute to work daily, about 50 miles, it just goes to show how world events affect us in one way or another.
oh yeah then if saudi arabia because i think their the biggest suppler it will go past 5 bucks a gallon . it's 3.50 a gallon here now. im telling you im trading in my pick up laugh for a prirus or something good on gas. 50 miles each way for you would add up. libya supplies less than 2% of the oil consumed globally .professor but gadafis libya ain't going out like the guy from egypt . and some of the comments gadafi has been making like bin lidan is behind this uprising and just weird talk lol i, wouldn't be suprised if he got radical and started burning his own country and oil fields . iran would smash their people the saudis i don't ,know then theirs korea im not sure which one lol so many just fed up they tricked their own people we the west were the devil it's crazy israel is definitely nervous now.
don't tell me about this hassel.... we r just hoping to avoid an invasion of libyan illegal immigrants ....#

My mother and other relatives are Maltese and live in Malta so i too hope Malta is not swamped.
I agree with you but to a certain point. I don’t think the rest of the world should just sit back while some dictators are exploiting, torturing, imprisoning and killing their own people and this for their own sake and that of their family.
I believe what happened in Iraq was a mistake but the intention wasn’t. The main plan was to remove Saddam from power and this was done. Staying in Iraq was certainly not part of the plan but with what followed they had no choice if they really cared for and wanted to help the people.
I believe what’s happening in Afghanistan is necessary if we truly are concerned and want these people to live happy and free lives.
What’s happening now in many Middle East countries is due to the people of these countries and the rest of the world should be behind them and ready to help them but of course this doesn’t mean to sent in troops and decide for them but to be there to help them by undermining and weakening their dictators and followers.
There are many other countries where people are suffering and being maltreated by those who rule them, a good example is Equatorial Guinea. I wish the rest of the world take action against dictators in such countries and this by weakening them, seizing their fortunes that belong to the people and by standing by the people to let them know we’re there and we care.
