Exposing yourself, life, death, music, reality, to

I want to expose you. No. scold Not like you're thinking. laugh I want to expose you to something different, something much better, and something honest. I'm not sure you are truly ready to handle it, but here goes anyway.

Some of you listen to rap crap or perhaps pop or rock or heavy metal, or country music, that almost any teenager can perform with very little training & practice.
I guess it's OK, mostly it's not your fault. You've been a good little receptive drone, gobbling up what's been spoon fed to you on the popular radio and TV stations. comfort Indeed, many of you still listen to what you listened to in high school. You've never evolved.
You don't know how the music industry really works, nor do you really care, even though you've been bombarded by it throughout your life. You just like something with a monotonous beat, that you can dance to.
You've likely never really gotten out there and researched music itself, nor dug to find the roots of where and why songs or lyrics arose. You've likely never explored to find REAL talent, just the popular stuff. You might even think that you are doing so, by watching American Idol, or some other pathetic farce of talent.

So, perhaps the following words have little impact on you. However, they affect me deeply. So, if you can, forgive my sullen tone for a monent. You may have previously noticed it's not my usual demeanor. But then, death affects me much differently than you anyway.

Most people actually believe that some heaven or heaven-like place awaits their soul, or body, or spirit. They BELIEVE that some unseen benevolent superpower is going to greet them at pearly gates to welcome them to an everlasting party, or some equally delerious bunk that's been told to them as children.
Now, I admit, it's a really nice fantasy. But, it is just another fairy tale. There's no heaven, there's no hell and there's no afterlife. "There's only you and me and we can disagree".

The truth is, when you are dead, you cease to exist. Well, except for your atoms. The body decomposes into it's building blocks and becomes part of the earth, just like every other dead being, animal, fish, plankton, human, etc... Finished. Caput. You cease to exist as a being, although you may become food or bulding blocks for other beings. I know it's very hard to accept. But, it is reality. Admittedly, harsh reality, but reality nonetheless. Death is final.

What set off this tirade ? Today Phoebe Snow died. sad flower
Who ? Phoebe Snow had one of the most amazing voices you will
EVER be lucky enough to hear. Some of you might recall her from her most popular song (popular songs are never the best ones), Poetry Man. Or perhaps you may remember seeing her alongside another amazing vocalist, Ella Fitzgerald, as they competed to break glasses with their voices in a Memorex ("Is it live, or Memorex ?") TV commercial many years back. Maybe you might recall her as the singer for the Cosby Show spinoff, 'A Different World'. I'm not sure. I never even saw that show myself. Instead, I found Phoebe by doing research.
Love the Cos though. grin

Regardless, this morning Phobe died at 60 of complications of a previous brain hemorrhage. Ironicly, her daughter died at 31 of a similar fate years ago. She didn't do a lot of touring and opted to mostly stay at home and care for her daughter. The world and particularly those who relish REAL talent are forever at a huge loss from this day forward.

As an example, despite the many vinyl 'pops' in this recording listen closely as Phoebe literally plays with her voice with rapid subtle and dramatic changes in tone, volume and note in this recording;

If you do a little research, you can find others.
Expose yourself.. to something truly good, while you still can. cheers

peace
