I got an A+!
Met with my lawyer yesterday. I'm suing a business partner to dissolve our partnership in some real estate - my husband had tried for two years before he died and no matter what he tried, the guy wouldn't sign off on anything. After 7 months, (you have to formally request and give the partner x amount of time to respond) we were able to subpoena the bank records (the creep wouldn't even give me documents I'm entitled to). I analyzed every statement, cash withdrawal, cash deposits and saw every check written since 2005.
There are more than $30,000 of questionable cash withdrawals. When the statements were mailed to my husband, the average cash deposit was $850 (some people pay their rent in cash). When the statements were mailed to the idiot, the average cash deposit dropped to $82. Go figure.
Next step - deposition. My lawyer gets to question him under oath before we go to court. I can't wait.
As I was leaving his office, my lawyer told me, "You get an A+ for the work you've done!" There haven't been many days when I felt really good lately, but yesterday was one of them!
Whew!
