Swapping in baseball and life

Usually in baseball when a player is traded, it's almost always
to a different team. However, in one unusual trade between 2 pitchers for the New York Yankees, this was not the case at all.

Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson were good friends who used to go out frequently together with their wives Suzanne (Kekich) and Marilyn (Peterson). However, in the summer of 1973 these two guys discussed whether they would actually be happier if they switched wives. At the end of the 1973 baseball season they did exactly that and more. They essentially switched families including; wives, kids, dogs and homes.

That year the commissioner of the league received more mail regarding this 'trade' than the new induction of the designated hitter into the American League. The general manager of the Yankees at the time Lee MacPhail joked that the "Yankees may have to cancel Family Day." laugh

While Kekich went on to have a better pitching career than Peterson, his subsequent relationship with newer wife Marilyn was not as successful, as they often broke off and got back together several times since the switch.

After his baseball career Fritz Peterson became an evangelist and still lives with Suzanne. They have had 4 more children together. He did not predict a recent rapture of the world. grin
