Soaring high
Very busy & fun day for me today. Now, I'm exhausted.
So, I'm going to make this short.
I played 2 softball games this morning. Split.
Won the first big. Lost the second big.
On the way home saw a great egret in a pond fishing,
so I took photos of him.
I got home, showered, changed into fresh clothes,
raced off to meet a friend at a Irish American club
to watch football games on multi TVs and eat a nice buffet.
I went and posted a new photoalbum of 33 pictures elsewhere.
Now I'm watching the baseball playoffs on TV.
Below I'm sharing one photo with you here.
It is a soaring female osprey at the beach.
Osprey are essentially fish hawks.
That is all they eat.
They have excellent vision, like an eagle.
Such birds can see newsprint letters from 100 yards away.
But, they can't read.
However, they can see fish under the water.
They scan the water from high up and rapidly dive down
grabbing the fish with their strong sharp talons.
They then carry the fish to a tree limb, holding the fish
with one talon and the tree with the other,
where they devour the fish dinner.... sans chips.
With no further ado, here's the osprey photo;
click on the photo to see it all, if you like.

Now that I think of it, they should have named the bird Fishprey instead of Osprey. they prey on fish, not Ossie.
That hawk is breathtaking Jim.....amazing living creatures....
ANyway, have a great day or night...
my congrats for ur win and for the loss...and hv a great time Jim
nice one,...i thought he catch a shark
Hey T Thanks. They are amazing creatures. The other day I watched an aerial assault as a bald eagle tried to steal a fish from an osprey. The somewhat smaller osprey is a faster flier and also more manueverable, when it isn't weighted down with a fish. I'm not sure, as it was in the distance and partially hidden by trees, but I think the osprey escaped with the catch this time.
O - I am guessing that yours give a much better back scratch.
F - they might catch a very young shark, but prefer a fish with less tough skin, such as trout, bass, pompano, or bluegill.
