Life is a beach :)

During the summer I play softball in a Jersey Shore league.
The games start at 6:30 pm,
but I like to get down & over there much earlier on game nights.
I like to stretch a bit before the game and throw some.
However, with about 16 different towns in the league,
I also like to explore the areas and photograph interesting scenes and wildlife.

As I do each week I post a photoalbum on another site,
covering photos that I shot in a one week period.
On the 15th I posted such a photoalbum,
that contained 31 mostly nature photos.

The following photo is one of those 31.
This photo is of the beach in Monmouth Beach, New Jersey.
I like this photo, because it contains a variety of structures,
textures, colors and lines.

I also happen to like the beach itself.
Maybe the fact, that I was born near the Jersey Shore has something to do with that. dunno
Regardless, can't you ALMOST hear the waves & gulls, smell that salt air
and feel both the sun and gentle breeze on your skin ? cool

Enjoy !

there ....... that red pipe ........ wonder if it's sewage ??????
lol. Actually, that's the overflow from a hotel pool.
Or all the Spilt Drinks...
Both, if they spill drinks into the pool.
It's there so the pool doesn't overflow when it rains.
jim, excuse my ignorance your always talking about it and its obviously something you enjoy and feel very passionate about but i gotta ask, what the heck is soft ball???
It's a game similar to baseball, except the ball is somewhat larger, the bases are bit shorter, there are 10 fielders instead of 9 and one is out if you fowl off a ball while you have 2 strikes.

They play this sport in the Olympics.

The sewage pipe? That takes away the beauty of it, Jim laugh
its like cricket??? yes
Jim is this location near the large old ginger bread cottage looking structure that is the size of a decent villa, however it is somewhat dilapidated, it has a strange reddish roof with some traps over it in areas? Next to that are the tall brownish hotel buildings with the swimming pools that use this pipe for overflow. I believe it is the most northern point of the Monmouth beaches, during low tide and if your timing is right, you can walk on the beach to the South Sea Bright beaches.
oh cool a drain from a pool hey if a big wave hit it would it put water back into the pool ???
Paul, this is between 2 tall hotel buildings, both have pools.
I am not aware of any gingerbread building,
but I am not all that familiar with the area.
Indeed, I had to ask a policeman directing traffic in that
area to tell me where the softball field is.

IW - Yes, it's somewhat like cricket, although I've never
played that.

Ti - they do NOT dump raw sewage into the ocean.
Indeed, there is a sewage treatment plant several miles
from there.

Adam, I'm not sure. Perhaps there is a trap that prevents backflow, but I really didn't inspect it that closely.
It is much more interest to people on here, than it was to me.
The house that I am talking about, is right next to the two hotel buildings, on the south side, it looks like it was built around the turn of the last century. It has some interesting architectural features, although it is in a state of disrepair. I often run on the beaches from Sea Bright to Long Branch, however after hurricane Irene, the area in your picture is impassable, unless you care for some rock climbing. Nice picture, I'm assuming it was shot between 3-4pm, judging from the shadows on the rocks. And, if I can correct you, the proper term is a check-valve, not trap, this allows water to flow in only one direction, however there are hotels/resorts in this area that have salt water pools, but I would believe that they still have check-valves to keep the fish out.
Thanks. I couldn't think of the correct terminology.

Like I said, I didn't notice the gingerbread house.
What led me there originally, was that there were 3 osprey
using the updrafts between the two tall hotel buildings to
soar higher & higher, prior to scouting for fish.
Thus, I got several good photos of those osprey soaring.
After they left, I went onto the beach.
The point is, I was looking up in the air when I went there
and didn't really notice the homes.
Yeah, about 4 pm - 4:30 pm sounds about right.
I had just gotten to the area.
Actually, I climbed down the rocks from the hotel area to
get down to the beach.
I haven't been back there since August
and likely won't be again until next summer.
When I am back down there, I will look for that gingerbread house,......if it isn't already eaten. lol
Our softball game here has just 9 players.....

Luv the pic!
I completely understand I usually look towards the ocean, however I heard a really load siren there one day and looked towards the homes and saw the one that I am talking about. It's one of those homes that look like they don't belong where they are, until you realize that the home is older then the rest of the surrounding ones. And it just got stuck in my memory, so I had asked if you knew about it, although I am unsure of its current condition after the storm, it may be gone. Yes, it is strange how many people noticed and commented on the over-flow pipe, am I the only person to notice your silhouette your picture?
Yes, I do know about Homer & the Odyssey's and sirens should come from the seas, but this was a firetruck, not as alluring unless you are a dalmation.
I see what you are talking about, but I don't believe it is my silhoutte. The sun was to my left and my shadow would be to the right. I think it may be just the shadows of the rocks, or possibly someone else standing ontop of the rocks.
I think it's just the rocks.
The 'head' is a crevice in the rock
and the shoulders are the shadow from the rocks
just above.
Thanks for clarifying, I wasn't sure if you had super-imposed your silhouette as a trademark.
Thanks Toffee.

Sometimes it varies by league.
I've played with 9, with 10, or with 11.
*loud siren. (Instead of "load siren").
