yes i understand you izzie . . best to be true to self and others..
It's hard to explain in a few words.
When you don't need to pretend to like the things they like... when you only laugh at their jokes when they are funny... when you compliment them when you see something worthy of a compliment... when you accept their tendency to drive slow, or talk fast, or too much interest in sports. When everything about them is okay... and many things about them are admirable. Someone who allows you to be real with them by accepting everything about you... who wants to understand you... and you, them.
The hard part is that people will "pretend" with us... they will be careful to present something better... to suppress their complaints... to laugh too often... to be too considerate. While they are pretending, we think this is real. Eventually we find out it isn't... instead of figuring out how to make themselves admirable, they just figured out how to act this way.
Also- some people don't know themselves very well... they constantly adjust to who they are with. They can't show their "real" selves because they don't know what that is.
I think the key is to simply find someone who shares this outlook... and to continue to figure out how to be genuine with each other.
