Multiple Streams of Income

I'm a big believer in having multiple streams of income.
Rather than only relying on one source of income,
I believe it to be prudent to have lots of sources of income.
That way, if something negative happens to one stream
the others are still there.

Obviously, one stream of income for me has been these blogs. roll eyes laugh
Subscribers pay a small fee to read my blogs.
You did pay, right ? Hey ! scold laugh

No, seriously, for me I've had 5 streams long term.
I get paid to do photography.
I do weddings, family portraits, anniversary & sweet 16 parties, barmitsfas, etc..
I also sell nature photographs to wildlife sanctuaries, state parks and a university, who all re-sell them to the public.
Additionally, I sell these photos at a discount directly to people from an international webpage.
I'm compiling photos and eventually plan to write some informational articles,
that I'll submit to wildlife magazines like Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, National Geographic, etc...

I also do real estate. When people buy or sell a house,
I get paid. applause Indeed, if you know someone who wants
to move anywhere in the USA, I can match them with the best real estate agent in their area. Being an experienced real estate agent, I know the right questions to ask
these agents and what the answers TRULY mean. This way I can make sure that your family or friends get great service, rather than a less than good agent. wink
So, if you know anyone who wants to move anywhere within the
USA, let me know, so I can help them. thumbs up

I also get paid residuals on an item I invented.
It's like the goop they put on you when they do
ultrasound. But instead of being a messy jelly,
it's more of a semisolid that isn't messy at all.
Every time a hospital or doctor's office buys it,
I get a residual.

I also get residuals from phone bills. About 10 years
ago I joined a network marketing company that marketed
cheaper long distance. Originally I paid about $350 to get
involved with that company and after working it for about 5 years, I've probably made close to $75,000 total and I still get a small check once a month on that.

Sometimes I sell things on eBay. Usually it is clothes or
something I find at an exceptional bargain at a store, or
perhaps at a yard/garage sale. As an example a month ago I bought 60 DVDs at a garage sale for $1 each. I sold them on eBay for $3 each plus shipping. But, I did keep a few for myself. grin

Two days ago I added another stream of income.
This one is really cool. It didn't cost me a cent
to join another network marketing company that
markets cheaper power. Up until 2 days ago I was paying a little over 12 cents per killowatt hour. The company I now represent allowed me to choose from 2 plans. One was at less than 9 cents per killowatt hour and the other plan was a little less than 11 cents per killowatt hour. Believe it or not, I opted for the 11 cent plan instead of the 9 cent plan, because the 11 cent plan is 100% green (renewable energy), while the 9 cent plan was only 25% green. Customers can choose whichever plan they want and
the company also donates $1 per month to whatever local charity
you select. I chose the New Brunswick Community Food Bank.
It helps feed the homeless. I think there were something like 60
different charities I could have selected.

Wow Jim, you're one busy guy! applause
I do the green power and ebay thing , but end up buying more online than selling (stupid shoes mumbling ) laugh
You are very right though; if you put in some time to research, there are lots of ways to make some money... if one's not too lazy to work the ideas, like me sighlaugh
cheers
I like to have multiple streams of expense. laugh

- The house... well, more time than money.
- The car... more money than time.
- Investments... yeah, this used to be a stream of income! uh oh laugh (somewhere between sad and funny)

And in my spare time... music and tennis and my favorite activity is to not have a plan! ... to just spend the day doing whatever comes along... no place to be... no commitments... cut the grass then go out on the bike... dancing

(haven't sold on eBay before... just listed my first item for sale last night... we'll see how it goes)

I enjoy learning about people... thanks for sharing more about your part of the world, Jim. cheers

I can hardly find time to do anything, days pass so quickly for me. I really admire your way of doing things. Bravo!!! tip hat
wow jim , I hope the Tax man wont read your blog ...wave
@Virgo,

Didn't you know that there are usually great tax breaks built into running your own business? Especially with multi-level marketing.thumbs up
thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up Thanks for sharing, Jim.
Have the same principals here, If we can make money from other sources, why not? I have done little business here and there. Besides teaching and running my farm, I alos do little sales. The best that I've got so far was acting as a right hand person for a friend of mine as an Insurance Agent and find customers for her. The commission I get from this pays for our medical, life and education insurance and I still get to enjoy some of it. I also sell bags, shoes, clothes that were offered on discounts and I sell for twice the price once the discount is over. SOmetimes, I sell to my friends on credit at different prices. I have tried the multi level marketing thingy but didn't work out well so quit it. I have never done any business on line - a bit interesting to find out - I was a bit skeptic about them so never bothered to try -
This concept has never been more important that today...with this failing economy! thumbs up cheers peace
