How Exciting!!!

I have a friend currently visiting me in Bali from Scotland (see profile pic for bearded, half naked men in Ubud) and as he will be heading to Jakarta for his connection home, I thought I'd join him for a few days and revisit the Big Durian (Indonesian capital) and then stay on for a week or so after he leaves.

This of course presented itself with an opportunity to meet a couple of the many delightful Indonesian members from CS who live in Jakarta, and I am glad, and even a little surprised, to say a couple have accepted my invitations to a night out on the town.applause

As I have never met anyone from an online community before and somewhat inexperienced at the whole thing, perhaps some of you may be able to offer some advice, preferably ridiculously silly, to assist me with this exciting week or two ahead.

Hammockman, is this your first time to Big Durian?grin wink
No, lachi. I have been to Jakarta a few times, but only for short periods of a couple of days waiting for flights on to further destinations.

Normally stay around Jalan Jaksa but this time I am going to treat myself a bit with a nice hotel.

Any "must do" things while I'm there?
wow ... hehehhe...have fun in jakarta...cheers
Hi shay, will do. Much good food and good companyconversing to be had methinks.
How Exciting!!! frustrated frustrated frustrated

How Bloody Agonizing for us dudes, with itchy feet but chained up lives!!! I need to break Free! frustrated grin
You live the life, HM - we poor city slobs only dream it! sigh thumbs up thumbs up cheers cheers ENJOY!
Must do thing?confused Let me think of it...
- getting to see Monas Tower (hey, its top is made of goldwink ) and if you're lucky, climb to the top...with elevator for sure giggle but don't go on weekend due to long queue of visitors (a city with 8 million peoplesigh ) you can see view of Jakarta in 4 directions,
- getting to see Kota Tua (Old Town) close to Fatahillah Museum in Kota area (West Jakarta), you can drop by to have cup of coffee at Cafe Batavia just the opposite of the museum,
- taking busway once in a while if you need to see if you are a patient person or not giggle,
- getting yourself in heavy traffic so you realized that you are now in Jakartalaugh (I've heard traffic in Bali is a bit worse than Big Durian now),
- unfortunately it's "rambutan" season, not durian as I didn't see any durian available in fruit-vendor's stall, if you want durian you can go to nearest supermarket/hypermarket,
- a very serious advice is to bring your raincoat or umbrella as it's raining a lot these daysgrin

Great recommendations, lachi, and all noted, especially the umbrella. It hasn't rained that much here in Ubud this year really, which is surprising as every other time I've been here it has, just lucky I guess.

Yeah, I remember the traffic in Jakarta. Think I will take a Damri from airport to Gambir station then taxi from there.

Happy dayslaugh grin
Ah, I remember when I visited Ubud it was almost raining everydayblues Maybe there has been a climate change there?dunno

That's a very smart thing to do, Hammockman. Take Damri bus from the airport to Gambir station and you take taxi from there to your hotel. Just make sure the taxi driver puts on his meter. You can find Blue Bird taxi, they usually park close to the gate of the station (the gate that's facing on Immanuel Church).

Sampai bertemu ya dan hati-hati di jalan, see you in Big Durianwink wine
Saya berharap untuk itu. (Hope that's rightlaugh )
That's correctthumbs up Another alternative to say is, "Saya harap juga begitu" (daily conversation version)conversing wine
