out of mind out of sight
out of sight, out of mindProv. If you do not see someone or something frequently, you will forget about it. (Sometimes used to imply that you will forget about people who have moved away.) Ever since I moved, none of my old friends have gotten in touch with me. It's out of sight, out of mind with them, evidently. My electric bill somehow got moved to the bottom of the stack on my desk, and I forgot all about paying it. out of sight, out of mind.

From your standpoint though, how could any of your friends forget about you and your sense of humor? Baffles me!

When you think of it "out of sight out of mind",is natures way of being kind to us. We miss someone so terribly when they first go away. We can't go on feeling that way and be able to live our lives so the memory and the need for them fades.
With family esp my parents and my siblings, they are always on mind and heart. I do call home every 3 days, if not every week and we also do skype and FB videocall. Awesome! With my close Aunties and Uncles and cousins we always have FB to communicate and call/texts on special occasions. So no forgetting for us.
Maybe i wrong for thinking this way, but i notice also after my divorce my so called friends disapear somehow and maybe me to i push them away, but no one call juts to ask how you feel or to talk about it, no one from my friends. Except a mother and a father. Neither the brothers or sister do not care so much when they have their own family they are always busy with ther problems. Life is this way!
Better not rely on the others, usually you ll be disappointed...
Take it as an opportunity to find new friends.
Also, I think some friends better stay in a certain period of your life, they are just part of it and not of your whole life.
I have a friend from University and she lived in LA, USA for 12 years so we didn't keep in touch. She came back last year and started contacting me practically every day, including at work. We weren't so close even 20 years ago! She annoyed me but I was patient. Finally, we went on holiday together for 3 days and she did something so indecent and stupid for a woman of 45 (she s a bit older than me) that I left and came back home at the 2nd day. Now we don't contact each other anymore. and I prefer our friendship to stay in the past. People change.
