The student army numbers reached 10,000 at one point as there were student army volunteers from different universities from all over the country descending on Christchurch to help out at their own expense.
Many students spent weeks upon weeks shoveling silt (a by product of earthquakes) while others were checking on the welfare of the elderly and infirm and assisting where they could. Where ever there were people needed to do a job the student army was there.
I am proud to see young people taking the initiative and mobilizing in this manner, its fantastic!

Nonsmoker, well, you start by signing anti-cruelty petitions but I am afraid the pay is poor in the natural, but in the spirit it is priceless....
