Christmas Thoughts

Christmas time has certainly been a range of experiences for me over the years .... as a young girl the anticipation of gifts, good food and family that we hadn't seen for a while. We didn't go to church or anything like that, but I always remember the Christmas Carolers who'd come down our street singing carols ....

Gingerbread cookies, butter tarts and lemon meringue pie come to mind and the fresh scent of the Charlie Brown Christmas tree that our dad always waited until the last moment to buy.

It became a bittersweet time for me as well, as my brother committed suicide on December 26 ..... after that it wasn't the same, but my daughter and her excitement of Christmas helped to heal our family.

Over the years we've experienced the Christmas plays, the carols, counting how many reindeer or Santa's we could see in christmas light displays .... and enjoyed laughs and fun and sometimes the odd white Christmas as well.

This year I'm looking forward to sharing it with my loved ones .... someone special has come into my life as well so it will be even better to have that experience to share.

Yes Mistletoe, I'll need to track some down :)

I am sorry to hear about your brother. I think Christmas as an adult can still be amazing though!
i can relate over the years, i get less and less excited about Christmas, bit dont think i will ever loose the spirit of it at all
Thanks Rising .... my brother was your current age ... its been 23 years now and I sometimes think of him and what his life could have been like ... too many dreams lost.

Cherrie, certainly our Christmas experiences are ever evolving .... I find the anticipation far outweighs the one day, and I think its more about the journey and those small moments that strike us.

Making someone's day by an unexpected gift, or donation ....... offering a kind word of encouragement, gathering items to enclose in the shoebox that a child in another part of the world would love to receive ... volunteering at the dinner or sharing the experience with everyone ......... each year we have the opportunity to create new memories.
so true, lang, each year my family gets bigger and also more expensive, so charity starts at home, then i stretch it out further where i can
