strenght

As you may have noticed i haven't been so active here these last few days. But as you may know I play santa each year at a local hospital for children. So in preparation for that i have been reading allot of the letters that those children had written for santa. I don't know how to describe this feeling, these children are just so brave.
I have here a letter from a 7 year old boy, his biggest wish is that santa would take away the sadness of his parents once he is gone. This boy is so young and knows this is his last Christmas but all he cares about are the people he loves the most.
He isn't the only one.. Almost all of them ask to take care of their parents or brother or sister.
I've had another one from a boy who said he was soon going to live with his daddy in heaven.. and if i could visit his mom once in a while so she wouldn't get lonely.
I'm never shy with witty replies and such.. but what do you answer to such questions???
It makes me so sad to know these kids need to think about all of that. But it also makes me proud to get to know each and every one of them, and hopefully to make them forget their situation for just a few seconds and make them smile.

Fair play Teddy I wish their was something I could say but that's a good thing your doing. thumbs up

and like you say maybe the smile for a while is the way to go
Give them all a happy christmas form this little elf wave
yes reality can leave you speechless

i did work in a nursing home for a while and saw lots of people departing

they never once complained about anything and died with dignity

unfortunately when it comes to children it is even sadder

of course as they live too early
We'll give the best from ourselves.. no doubt about that. And thanks to our sponsors we will be able to give out some wonderfull gifts again. gamecomputers, psp's, got some ipods, ipads, classic boardgames, teddybears..... but i think we shoudl be most proud of our special guests this year.. don't remember their name but the our a musicband that should be very popular with children of that agegroup. they have agree to come with us and play a few songs there. So should be great.
i also volunteered in pediatrics (terminal diagnosis ward)and had to "suit up" just to go in-very poor immune systems.we could only distribute germ-free toys and rarely could they play with their siblings.just keep their hopes and dreams ongoing,as everyday things have changed so dramatically for their whole family..thank you reminding me what is real about christmas time.
How lucky we are and how our problems pale sigh

mtncabingirl and Teddy cheers
these kids are all diagnosed with cancer.. for many of them it will be their last year. May sound weird but its so wonderfull to see them enjoy themselves that day.. how they all play together and dance and sing. It is hard for us (the adults) to stay cheerful that day.. For allot of parents it also very difficult because for many of them it will be the last time to their kids so happy. But the hospital is very helpfull with - how you say it in english- mental support to the families.
strange to say maybe nonsmoker.. but these kids don't have a problem.. They accept reality and just worry about the ones left behind.. They just wanna be kids and enjoy themselves.
wondered where you'd been lately...the mailroom

I didn't get that many letters.. I think maybe a hundred or so.. We make a few housecalls as well to friends and family of me and the other people involved.. My elves. But we do know allot about these kids.. we actually have quite a file on each of them.. We wanna make sure they are convinced we are the real deal.
Dont think I would have the strength for it.
spdspd.. thanks

Zman.. I have been thinking allot about that.. And not sure how i'll fix that problem.. Maybe i'll need to convince one of my mates to grow a beerbelly? But I think kids would be to impressed from meeting santa that they might not notice.. I've seen many skinny santa's around and the keeps seem to believe they are real to so guess we'll see how things go.
I think its all been said already but my respect for what your doing.thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up wave

My friend asked us if we could help him out because his brother really wanted to see santa.. so we did.. Ever since that day we started get more organised and we just keeping doing it as a tribute to this boy and my friend.

Goodjob Teddy! Its nice to know that there are still people who have a good heart. I know that its not easy the time and effort that you put thru your project but still you are very much willing to make those kids happy. GodBless you angel

ice-cream... The joy on those faces make it all worth the work. And believe me it is allot of work.. We will start writing to compagnies and toystores half january already to see if we can get some gifts for next year. At some compagnies you need allot of patience to get to someone that is autorised to make these donations. We need to pick them up, we giftwrap them all.. We label all of them.. This year we're having this band to make a guest appearance.. Sure that will be fun but to get it all organised with their managment and such... pfff. And then we still have to learn all the stuff about the kids themselves.. what they like/hate... family and their close friends even their pets. We really do the lots ya know.
Feel So sad for those children, their parents and siblings Teddy.

Really great stuff Teddy and am sure u do make them forget their situation for a short while.Really good on you Teddythumbs up
thanks tormented. cheers
Thank you Teddy.
We can always learn from the kindness and good deeds of others cheers
Good for you Teddy!

Hugs and love for all those kids. Yeah, I know what you mean about those kids. When I was being treated for cancer it was always hard to take seeing kids and babies being treated for cancer. It was hard enough for me but for the little ones it was heart wrenching.
tormented.. If my friend hadn't asked this many years ago.. I would never have started this.. I would be like most people i guess and just give a bit money to some organisations. Works allot easier.
another sad story...sad flower
