When A Cat Don't Fear Dogs...
My cat died the day before yesterday. I had to help him out of his misery. I cannot explain how he managed to drag his mangled body home. His gut was torn open, his intestines were hanging out, he had a gash in his throat, his ear was almost torn off, and his right hind leg was badly mauled, probably partly crushed. And while he was laying there dieing, he purred as loud as a diesel engine. This confirmed something I once read about cats. Cats don’t purr because they’re happy; they purr because they want attention.
The worst thing of it all is that this cat was not scared of dogs. He would not even have tried to flee from his attacker until it was too late. That was my fault. Dogs are known to do this; and yet I trained my cat not to be scared of dogs. I shall never make that mistake again.

As a lover of all domesticated animals i feel your hurt.
You guys from NSW, my daughter told me last night about 11pm (my time) that at 6am (your time) it was already 22°. Hmm, she’s been complaining about the heat since December. How do you manage it?
So sorry for your loss under such tragic circumstances.
I have to ask the question though. How can you be sure it was a dog?
We have foxes and badgers in the UK that will attack cats on the odd occasion. Have you not got other animals that hunt and kill domestic pets.

Hi Mickeymost,
Strangely, as I live in a country with an abundance of wildlife, no, we have no animals like that around here. This is a highly populated area with no game anywhere. The only wild animals you will find here are mice, rats, bats and moles. You won’t find a fox or anything like that in a 100km radius
There were eye witnesses. The dog had been identified and some of my neighbours are livid, but I cannot blame the dog too much. The cat should have fled. I interfered too much with the natural behaviour of a cat. I have removed his only defence mechanism against dogs.
Thanks for the reply.
Sorry but if the dog has attacked the cat and is known for this, it will do it again to another unsuspecting cat. The owners should be informed, and the dog kept under control.
It could be a child next.j.m.o.
is like loosing a best friend
Thats what you meant, i i misinterpeted it
again am very sorry for your loss.It was a very good looking kitten.
Ohhh ....
I really, really understand your mood and your loss ...
after the children, the animals for me on one place.
I,too, lost a feline friend last night. "Cody" was 5 years old and died of Metabolic problems (ie liver and kidneys shut down). He was white with silver patches and had a silver ringed tail. I shall miss his presence immensely and hope to see him at the Rainbow Bridge one day.
May your feline friend be with you always in heart and spirit.
his purring would have been an involuntary response, not from contentment, I can assure you of that, perhaps it helps to block pain..
I'm a cat lover and have been my entire life, it isn't your fault catfoot that your pet wasn't afraid of dogs: how could you have possibly foreseen something like this happening?
my fear is that if the dog does this to a cat it could be a young fearless child next...
