My Garden Surprise Today
This morning I fully inspected my property to seewhat was happening while I was gone.
I contemplated planting some radishes & peas,
but we are supposed to get snow tonight & tomorrow.
Apparently, old man winter did not vacate the area yet.
So, I will wait until mid-week before doing any planting.
However, I see my scallions are up & growing,
as are red onions and chives.
I'm friends with all my neighbors on all sides of the house and they
kindly watch over the property for intruders while I'm gone.
One neightbor volunteers to pick up the free newspapers,
that are thrown on the front lawn each week.
I brought him some Florida oranges & grapefruits,
that I bought at a fruit stand the day before I left Florida.
I gave them to him yesterday.
Before doing a full yard inspection, I decided to fill the bird bath with water,
as it was near empty. Something I have never seen before.
It might have a slow leak due to a crack on the bottom.
I filled it up and will keep a watch over the next week or two.
I also fill the bird feeder with seeds and a plastic cup I have
partway down one of the garden poles.
I poked a large hole in the bottom of it and shove that onto the pole.
Birds often perch ontop of that pole and dip into it for seed.
I firmed up those poles that hold the fence bordering my garden.
I'll probably do that again after a good rain, as the soil is not really soft now.
But, a few were knocked down by the winter winds.
However, while I was gone, the winter winds blew quite a bit of refuse onto my lawn.
So, part of today I spent cleaning all that up in my yard.
I picked up plastic bags, used small Cheetos & chip bags,
newspaper, a plastic bottle, a bit of aluminum foil, and other stuff.
However, while cleaning up, I also got a nice surprise.
There was something I had never seen on my lawn
in all the years I've been living here.
Now, it wasn't in perfect condition.
It looked like it had been soaked a bit at one time.
But, really it isn't in bad shape a all.
It is.......... a $10 bill.
Thanks mother nature.
Or maybe it was the groundhog,
who felt guilty about the radish pillaging incident last summer.
"Well, another man might have been angry,
and another man might have been hurt.
....I stashed the bill in my shirt..."

The $10 went into my wallet and will probably
buy some food or gas along with a bunch of it's siblings.
Great story!
And thanks for Harry Chapin.
We often have fun together.
