Hmm, hate is a strong word!
I ran a Poll on closed blogs without comments. Most were in favour of comments. Some felt quite strongly against closed blogs.
I personally feel that you should acknowledge your commenters, but that is only how I feel.
I have created a poll to test it now.
So we see what transpires. A good issue though!

Personally, i don't care much if no ppl comment on my blog. Since my blogs mainly serve as a diary.
But if ppl comment, i would love to respond as long as i have time. It's always a nice feeling to receive positive energy from ppl around, even online. And such comments usually make me feel that life is beautiful.
I don't comment on others' blogs much, unless the blog's title interests me. I prefer to comment on forum, i enjoy sharing and discussing opinions with others. I could always learn from those wise ppl's insights and attitude even during a fierce debate.
So, above is my opinion.
