The Tail of 2 Species (yes, I know it's tale)

I went out taking nature photos at Colonial Park today.
Before leaving I met 5 park rangers at their ranger station.
Sometimes I go in there on my way out,
because USUALLY there is only one ranger and he's bored.
But, it was like a party in there today.

I asked where the nearest bear sighting was.
They asked me what I was taking pictures of.
With a straight face I said,
"mostly the hot girls with their tops off"...
then said....."just joking".
They laughed.

I said, "lets see...
today I photographed deer, king birds, a 10 spot dragonfly,
eastern goldfinch, tiger swallowtails, a blue jay and a great blue heron
and oh yeah, a female wood duck."
They all wanted to see the wood duck and the 10 spot dragonfly.

After I showed them pictures of those,
I said, "oh, you guys will probably be interested in the
juvenile bald eagle shots I got 2 days ago in Plainsboro."
They definitely did. So, I showed them those too.

On the drive home I thought about this.....

Think about 2 separate species.

Species A kills many of it's own species and lots of other species too,
including some it doesn't eat.
Species B has never intentionally killed any species, not even it's own.

Youngsters of species A cannot survive in the wild long until perhaps about age 15.
Youngsters of species B can survive in the wild decades after about 4 months of age.

Species A pollutes the environment to the point that they even spoil the ground, the water and the air.
Species B never created anything that isn't 100% biodegradable.

The average individual of Species A can jump about 3 feet into the air.
The average individual of Species B can jump over a 10 foot fence from a standstill.

Pairs of species A are continually vocalizing, so that predators always know
exactly where they are.
Pairs of Species B are usually silent, mainly using non-vocal communication
to signal others of danger.

Babies of Species A are helpless. They do not know, or make any attempt, to
avoid predators.
Babies of Species B hide and cautiously watch potential predators.
If discovered, they rapidly run & hop to successfully avoid predators.

Babies of Species A are often abandoned, purposely aborted, or disposed of.
Babies of Species B are NEVER intentionally abandoned nor neglected.

Now tell me, which species is more evolved in response to it's environment ?
Species A - humans ?
or
Species B - whitetail deer ?

We as humans like to THINK that we are the most evolved.
Yet, bears have the best noses (100 times better than a bloodhound).
Eagles have the best eyes.
Perhaps foxes or owls have the best ears.
Trees (or clams if you are talking animals) live the longest.
Sharks have the capability to detect electromagnetic fields.
Lizards can regenerate limbs.
Plants can photosynthesize. Solar energy is not news to them.
Crocodiles, alligators and horseshoe crabs have been on earth MILLIONS of years longer than humans.

I submit, that we have evolved differently,
but we are not necessarily MORE evolved.
The earth is not ours to abuse & destroy.
Respect your mother......earth
and it's other inhabitants. peace

Honor the sacred.
Honor the Earth, our Mother.
Honor the Elders.
Honor all with whom we share the Earth:-
Four-leggeds, two-leggeds, winged ones,
Swimmers, crawlers, plant and rock people.
Walk in balance and beauty.
~ Native American Elder ~

Treat the earth well.
It was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors,
we borrow it from our Children.
~ Ancient Indian Proverb ~

Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.
~ Chief Seattle, 1854 ~

When all the trees have been cut down,
when all the animals have been hunted,
when all the waters are polluted,
when all the air is unsafe to breathe,
only then will you discover you cannot eat money.
~ Cree Prophecy ~

I do not think the measure of a civilization
is how tall its buildings of concrete are,
But rather how well its people have learned to relate
to their environment and fellow man.
