Hi Scouse
And the beauty of it is that cholesterol can be brought under control quite easily by eating the right foods without cutting down too much on the 'wrong' foods.help But of course informing the general public will bring about a loss of revenue.frustrated

You are SO right! Statin drugs are awful for your health. I wonder how many of the men who are taking a statin drug know that it seriously effects the libido. Prescribe a statin drug and you may as well prescribe some little blue pills while you're at it.

As a friend of mine likes to say, "Don't do it!".
chame1eon,not just men?lots of people over 50(or less even)are put on statins to lower cholesterol?but do GPs do research on side affects?(or do they just take a payment from the drug companies)because all the questions you ask are given the same answer?.lower your cholesterol?or take statin drugs.cheers
chame1eon hi,well I missed the most important to me(libido)you are a well informed ladycheers
You're right, Scouse. Women are taking it too.

Your total cholesterol is not as important as the ration of HDL to LDL and your trigliceride level. The lower your LDL and Trigliceride levels, the better. And the higher the HDL the better. That can be achieved via changes to the diet and increased exercise.

This is a great topic for a blog! thumbs up
As to your question about whether GP's get paid to promote unhealthy drugs...the answer is most definitely.

Sorry to take over your blog. grin
Doctors get samples from pharma companies, invitations to seminars/vacations and gifts when they place orders, so yeah.
On the flip side, you can ask your GP to prescribe a generic drug.
