Children and the technology of today!

When I was a lad we did not have all the technology they have now like: I pods, Smart Phones, Blu Tooth, Tablets etc and the question is does it take away from their childhood?

I had a very active childhood full of plenty of activities including: Swimming, Karate, Bike Riding, Cricket, Climbing trees, making tree houses, playing with the dog, go carts, skateboarding, roller-skating, camping, hide n seek and how great those days were.

I feel sorry for the children of this modern technological society, because the pressure to grow up is far too great and I blame society for allowing this to happen!

It’s not just the gadgets but the whole attitude that what a child wants a child gets and gone are the days of telling a child to save up or get a paper round if they want something!

The internet has a number of uses but unfortunately it is opened to Trolls, Scammers, paedophiles etc and unless you monitor your Child's activities they could become another victim!

At the end of the day mobile phones were invented for emergencies and not texting, internet searching etc and how are you meant to keep track of your Child's correspondence? The scary thing is that they could be talking to a paedophile pretending to be another child:(((

When I was a lad I and my brother were free to play etc with no fear of anything ever happening to us and I know I was lucky to be brought up in those days!

How do you feel about Children and the technology of today?
Should they have mobile phones? Spoilt, unsafe and short childhoods in my view

Should children only use the internet with a adult present to monitor their correspondence? Yes for their own safety in my view

Can restrictions be made to prevent children from accessing adult content on the internet? If they can be they should in my opinion

Should the violence on the televised news be pushed to late night adult viewing to prevent children from being victim to graphic imagines of murder, death and negativity? Too right it should!

@Freedom..... My childhood was very similar, we did not have all the technology like this day and age..... we were very content with what we had. Although modern technology is great, it no doubt has it's down side to it.
Scary stuff. Luckily I don't have any grandchildren to worry about. Think each generation survive in their own way but glad I also grew up when life was so much simpler. dunno
elkself, The children of today will be teaching the children of tomorrow, how to be a computer programmer, how to text a ton of content in seconds and how to grow up as quick as possible!

The important things about being a child like we experienced will be forgotten with this new generation and sadly technology will be all they know!
Feel sorry for them . They are not creating true memories .
daniel, Yes it is a sad generation the children of today, because they won't have the fond memories of childhood all of us have and the generations before us had!
My son had the lastest technology cause their dad had his own computer business.

My son also was limited to how long he used his computer etc.He never had his own cell phone. When he misbehaved his father and I would take his computer away.

He was never allowed to just sit in his room at the computer or his tv all day he had to go outside to play. When he was sick he wasn't allowed to use them either. If he was too sick to attend school then he was too sick to play on the computer or watch tv.
i was fortunate to have a childhood and also a teenage free of computers, internet, mobiles, tablets, mp3 players, debit and credit cards, electronic blackboards, biometric entrances, television ( it was available but not bought ) and wot not. handshake
