Bumper Sticker Philosopy
Today while running some errands,I was driving behind a car that had
the following bumper sticker on it;
"Do what you love. Love what you do." followed by one of these
I have to admit, it made me smile.
Although a bit simplistic,
there is some real truth within it,
plus, I could identify.
Indeed, when I taught at a university,
I often would encounter college students,
who were stressed about what their major should be.
That happens a lot in the sciences, especially when a
student is struggling to keep up.
I would make them think I was switching the subject,
by saying that, "everyone is different,
I don't really know you. Tell me about yourself first before we discuss this".
Next I would ask about their "family and their hobbies"
and "what they enjoyed most."
People generally like to talk about what they enjoy most.
Indeed, I would often interrupt them (due to my own time constraints)
at that point and say,
"you really do enjoy (whatever they were talking about the most)",
don't you ?
Of course, they would reply with a enthusiastic "yes".
I would then ask, if they "ever thought about making a career" of that ?
I then would state, that if you enjoy what you study and thus, you study what you really enjoy,
you will probably do terrific AND all that focus and application
will likely make you very good and thus,
probably very successful at it long term.
But, most importantly, you will enjoy doing it a lot.
Thus, you will enjoy this aspect of your life and will likely be a happy person.
Some other of my favorite 'slogans' are;
"Make stepping stones of stumbling blocks"
and
"Change is inevitable, growth is possible."
What are yours ?

No matter if it's a Tic Tac or a Gobstopper, in the end it's still what it is.
Catch my drift
I like reading bumper stickers too...one of my favorites is a picture of the KFC logo...the man in white...with words that said...I am Dead...kinda funny but morose!!
