Way of Greeting
According to the Glorious Qur'an Al-Noor chapter 24 verse :61 "But when you enter the houses, greet one another with a greeting from Allah (i.e. say: Assalaamu ‘Aleykum (May peace, mercy and blessings of God Almighty Allah (SWT) be upon you), blessed and good."
It is also preferred to use the greeting when arriving and also when leaving.
(Its reported in the Hadith in Jami` al-Tirmidhi) that Abu Hurayrah said “When one of you joins a gathering, let him say Assalaamu ‘Aleykum. When he wants to get up and leave, let him say salaam. The former is not more important than the latter.”
(Sahih Al-Bukhari, 6234; Muslim, 2160) According to Hadith Prophet Muhammad PBUH was asked who should "begin" the greeting Assalaamu ‘Aleykum and he said:
"The one who is riding should greet the one who is walking and the one who is walking should greet the one who is sitting and the smaller group should greet the larger group."
It is also stated that one should give the greeting Assalaamu ‘Aleykum upon entering in a house. This is based upon the verse of the Glorious Qur'an Al-Noor chapter 24 verse :61.
(Sahih al-Bukhari in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad) The better greeting and reply are illustrated in the following Hadith. Umar (radiAllahu anhu) reports that he was riding with Abu Bakr (radiAllahu anhu) on one mount. When they passed by people, Abu Bakr (radiAllahu anhu) greeted them saying: 'Assalamu alaikum' and they replied: 'Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatu Allah.' Or he may greet them saying: 'Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatu Allah,' for which their reply was: 'Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatu Allah wa barakatuh.' Abu Bakr (radiAllahu anhu) commented: "Today, people have gained much more than us."

Similar message is given in the Bible According to the New testament Prophet Jesus PBUH Gospel of Luke chapter 24 Verse 36 in Hebrew language Shaloam Aleichem (May peace be on you) & in Arabic As-salamu alaykum (May peace Mercy & blessings of Almighty God Allah (SWT) be on all of you).
Both sound similar why? Sister languages Arabic and Hebrew are sister languages.
Hello, Hi, Hey is a telephonic conversation message it is not a Greeting at all these types of messages are given to confirm the other person on the other side of the phone weather he/she is currently present with you or can he/she hear you when you are having a conversation with him/her or not on the phone. It is not a greeting at all it’s a misconception.
Alexander Graham Bell was the person who invented the first practical telephone and also this word (HELLO) in one of his conversations during his invention when he tried to communicate with the other side of the phone with his partner when he suddenly called out (HELLO). Since then this word (HELLO) has been used as a greeting which if you analyze from the history it has nothing to do with greeting at all. Its just a telephonic conversation message to know whether the other person on the phone is present or not.
Similarly if you analyze Greeting good morning, afternoon, evening or Good night is not an appropriate greeting as well.
Why?
Because if you analyze for instance if you get up in the morning and have to reach at work in time and you find that its raining cats & dogs and you reach wet at your office or if you have a fight with your wife and without getting breakfast in a bad mood you have to reach to your office for work in that situation after reaching there will you want to say Good morning to everyone? You will hesitate greeting in such a situation.
But if you Greet the way God Almighty Allah (SWT) has told in the scriptures according to your religion in Hebrew (Shaloam Aleichem) or in the Islamic way in Arabic as (As-salamu alaykum) it will be easer to in such a bad situation as well. Because you have had a bad start of the day you won't want anyone else to have a start like that.

I would like to give you one more example if you have entered in a chat room for chatting and you Greet Good morning to every one some of them will replay by saying that on our end its night some will say its evening some will replay by saying its afternoon here on our end. What type of Greeting is the best in such a situation?
As I have mentioned earlier according to the Glorious Qur'an Assalaamu ‘Aleykum that the problem can be solved.
So logically if you analyze it is the most appropriate way to greet a person this way instead of saying such words like (Hi, Hello Hey) which is not a greeting at all its just a telephonic conversation message.
