YOU SEE YOUR NEIGHBOURS! DO YOU REALLY KNOW THEM

Who are your neighbours? You see them, you greet them may be, you even smile with them, but do you know actually who they are? In France, greetings are personalised between people who really know each other, that is why some foreigners who visit France usually get angry at French people and find it difficult to understand the way of life here. It's sometimes ok in France not to greet people you don't know even if they are your closest neighbours, or not to respond to people you don't know.confused

This is a interesting blog,,it seems every time a crime is committed when talking to neighbors they almost everytime say they where model citizens..i guess living double lives dunno
After some pretty bad experiences I've always found it best not to neighbor with neighbors.
Thanks man for that.Another tip,is that French people prefer smiling to people they don't know than talking or greeting them.
Ccin, don not always trust people at first sight.People over here will observe you for a while, even the way you dress.
I could write a book about my neighbours i'd rather not know...
and most of all, about the one little children shud be afraid of uh oh
I know my neighbors, they know me,as a matter of fact, I earlier today dropped some burgers off off for one of them, a thank you for helping me shovel snow. The neighbors, around me ,are close, helping each other out, being there for one another. And I like it that way,yay yay
As for not greeting people you don t know, you call it okay, I call it rude. Whats the old saying, Too have good neighbors, you have to be a Good neighbor.
I think someone who won't greet a neighbor is both a rude person and also someone the neighborhood is probably better off if they move away. Maybe a midnight fire will help. laugh
Well, we see differences in culture and attitudes following all your response. These are very different from the way of life here in France, and this attitude bothers many foreigners who come to France, and that is why people always say that French people are arrogant.
Here everybody greet everybody even if they are strangers. Most of the time they will even indulge in small talk as well. My neighbors are not my friends but we talk to each other from time to time.
And if they are truly friends, they don't call the police every time they hear an argument unless it is warranted. The kind of neighbors who don't know either of you, but call every time they hear raised voices because they believe a simple argument over the toilet seat being up again is a fight are a pain.
Then you have those neighbors that when you wave at them..they just stare at you...I wonder if after Ive gotten further down the road that they can see me my Middle Finger sticking out the Car window?...........detective
Namaron, you got it all right.May be you have onced lived in France. That is the character over here, people will watch everything you do, even your dressing, knowing what time you go to the job, and what time you returned, but no one will greet you.Unless people know you.
I had a Dutch girl friend, who never knew the system and she will always complain, that people here in France are not friendly.People do not respond when she greeted them, and no one will greet her.But when i come back from the job site, people around will always tell me that, her French was not good.
