Question - what is a another word for male lover?
I've gone blank. Want to say character A is character B's lover but I'm not crazy about the word at that point - too twee. Boyfriend is even worse. The context is that he had been her friend for the last two years, her lover for the last six months.
When I ask the thesaurus it only comes up with female options (mistress, concubine, courtesan)
So I'm asking the ladies what you've called your lovers, and the gents what you would like to be called.
Maybe I should spend less time writing and more time out there finding out stuff first-hand.

That's A Good One....
Beau, suitor or inamorato
Cocheta, the last one sounds like Japanese??
Rather taken with beau
Actually Ek it was easier in Afrikaans, jou man is net jou man. Maklik.
Time to make that work in English. This is my man. Simple ...
I've always known you were something
The origin of inamorato is Italian based on Latin amor 'love'
It does sound a bit like Amaretto, huh?
True! A few of those could cloud your judgement and turn any male into a beau eh...
