A weird ordinance

In one city in the Metro Manila area, a city ordinance was passed limiting to four the number of pet cats and dogs. I'm just wondering if they could pass an ordinance limiting the number of children every family can have. With so many dog and cat eaters around, will the city council change the limit?

I can't imagine people eating cats and dogs, how sick.doh
@Titania, not all Filipinos are dog eaters. There used to be a tourist destination on the north of Manila selling dog meat until a concerned foreigner raised the ethics of it. Just last month my sister's dog gave birth to 3 snow white pups making her pets 5. I just felt this kind of ordinance is a bit silly overlooking the problem of having one children too many. I, too can't imagine someone eating the meat of a man's best companion. Really sick!
I don't eat meat.

What's the difference to a meat-eater whether they're eating a dog, a cat, a cow, or a pig?
Very little, only the taste and how you cook it.
Such pets at veterinary hospitals here are considered companion animals. Does the new city ordinance you mention include non companion animals that are raised to breed and make baloney and other food? dunno
Hmm, could add reading and watching DVDs, listening to music, painting, sculpture, coin collecting, small engine repair, etc.. laugh
@Ken, I used to go to Nagoya just for the English books on fascinating things about Japan. I thank that time when I had no TV since thru those books I got to learn and understand Japan, a country I've been living for 20 yrs or so but still can't comprehend. As for watching movies, and listening to music, what's internet and you tube for? You know I always give a link to you tube as soon as I was able to learn the how. Small engine repair, coin collecting... some things are just good in theory. Those things need time and I don't have that since I work for long hrs. There are low fees privately tutored painting and other cultural activities and they are all taught in Japanese. Maybe I can catch with the practicum side but still it would take my little extra time. Blogging takes little time and it's convenient and safe. Just don't worry Iam not bored with my life.grin
To every one who took their time, thank you so much and hop you understand if I took long to respond. bouquet
I mean not hop but hope.laugh bouquet
If you are not bored, it is alright. Besides many fun things on many topics to view on you tube. Everything from spacemen to music to fusion reactors and actual movies.

So, when Titania responded to your blog saying that eating cats and dogs was sick, it was because she doesn't like the taste...?

It sounded more like an emotional response to me.
I was once taken to a restaurant where you basically can buy or eat any animal there. I was so shocked. Since that day i started distancing myself to that guy. He ordered crocodile meat & believe me folks that white boy was feasting on that meat like nobody's business.
What's your objection to crocodile meat, as opposed to other kinds of meat?
I've been to manilatwice, and i was appalled at the poverty there, you can thank the catholics for that, no contraception, its a big place with over 2,000 islands, but the people starve so any meat is meat. IF you were starving you would eat dog or cat to survive.
@Jac, surely with your insinuation, you are just joking? Can't comment further. Today is my off day and just need to sleep. Thanks and good night folks.bouquet
No, I'm not joking, or insinuating anything, tatami.

I'm genuinely curious why people object to eating some animals, but not others.

I eat some forms of fish, mostly because I have such a restricted diet due to allergies, but I don't feel entirely comfortable with it. Fish is my comprimise because they're not exactly emotional creatures, with only a swollen brain stem, rather than a developed brain. I'd be hard pushed to put an insect, or grub in my mouth, however.

I have wondered if it's to do with the intelligence, or sentience of the animal, but a pig is way more intelligent than a dog and I doubt crocodiles require much love and affection.

I'm guessing for a lot of people it's either about emotional attachment, societal norms, or sqeamishness of some sort. dunno

And I suspect it's different for everyone, so I was asking for people's thoughts and feelings on the subject.
@ jac... The Croc meat I've tasted was uprisingly tender and tasted like baloney with peanut butter and pickle spread..... probably jest the way the Cajuns were preparing it at a Mardi Gras in New Orleans a few years ago. Yummy wave
@Ian, Poverty lives vis a vis with affluence. In the city Iam mentioning, a well gated and highly prime village is situated very near a slum area known for high crime rate. In the subdivision where I live which is not gated, a slum area exists too. I remember when I was just a newly assigned public school teacher in that city. I followed to the letter what the principal had directed us to do. To home visit a student who had been absent for 3 consecutive days. I didn't consulted anybody and on my free hour, I took a trike and just told the driver to bring me to a certain address. There was a number of dwelling and a street name. I thought it was very easy to find. Me, being raised and born in the metropolis was really raised in a sheltered way. I was surprised to find more than 1000 households with the same address. It turned out, the slum was a whole big block. Luckily I was in my teacher's uniform and I was guided by the son of a household I happen to ask for direction. We had to walk the snake like and narrow unpaved way with the dog and human excrement here and there. When I got back to the school, some teachers where surprised to see me with no bad incidence. Well, that was in the early 80's. It would surely be different now with the drug problem very prevalent. Now I understand why you have a thing for Filipinas. It would be a nicer experience if you just explore the sea. And yes I agree with you the church has something to do with the problem because it doesn't allow for contraception. And they would always heckle God will provide hence they'll continue making babies irresponsibly. Iam a firm God believer but so many irresponsible things are done in His name. Just so sad!
@Jac, yes probably the emotional thing goes in there. But with fish, I happen to had a small aquarium in my teens and now as an adult visited some fish ponds, I just wonder if there is such an emotion displayed when I handed out food to them. They' would go flocking near you and some would even follow you in the hope of another hand out. Would that be considered emotion? And about the fish brain, I love eating it. I simply love the taste! Thanks for sharing your ideas!
To all friends, sorry if I responded late as always. Hope you understand. Thanks to everyone who shared their ideas.bouquet
