Two thirds for the birds
Or one third? Well, a lot anyway. This year so many starlings are around at this time of the year and the early cherries are ripe. There is a massacre. Red sugar sweet juice dripping down on leaves and ground. Hands get sticky. But I remember once the starlings massacred a calamity of caterpillars, Erannis defoliaria, in a cherry tree, too. So there is good and bad close together, as always.
And they do not care about waiting time. This year I sprayed the cherry trees for the first time since a long, long time. Last year the "worms" of fruit flies appeared in such numbers, that there was a total loss. And the years before the cherries were infested, too. So ecology yes, but always pay the price.....
