A tribute for those who gave the ultimate sacrific
While not perfect, the USA is a great country. Its residents experience wonderful freedoms. The price of freedom is naturally its successful defense. While I frequently question the direction of the armed forces, I do not question the devotion, nor sacrifice of the troops. These people for the most part valiantly follow the orders of their superiors to achieve conquest. Few plan on dying early, but unfortunately, this is a common occurrence during war and even in preparation of war. Frankly, its a dangerous business and while most deaths happen from the weapons of the enemy, a certain percentage also die from misfires, crashes and "friendly" fire. Regardless, giving of one's life in the defense of our country is the ultimate sacrifice. While its easy to remember the generals, the battles won, the flag raisings and the final victories, the losses are indeed steep. No family enjoys the loss of loved ones. So, on this Memorial Day I give sincere thanks to those brave and afraid men & women who took the call of duty and served our nation in an effort to preserve our freedom, which should not be taken for granted.Indeed, on behalf of everyone, thank you.

However, I'm a veteran myself (U.S. Air Force - Tactical Air Control Party) of 5 1/2 years. Over that course of time, alot of good friends of mine died - and they will always hold my respect, dead or alive. I'm sure it's not much different from veterans of over wars/conflicts either. My only regret is that they died and I did not.
