Visual Creatures
I often hear that men are visual creatures. If that is true, a blind man has a definite advantage over the seeing when it comes to sex. They see with their hands, don’t they? No, I don’t envy them; I don’t want to be blind, but I admire the way in which they adapt to their circumstances.About 35 years ago, I had a colleague who had a blind wife. Let’s call him Jakes. One day I saw them driving and I noticed what a beautiful woman she was. I remarked about her beauty to another colleague and he laughed and said that only a blind woman could marry Jakes. Only then, I learned that she was blind. Granted, Jakes was not good-looking at all, but I think she saw something else in him.
I’m not going to go into the detail of how it came about, but one day after work, the situation arose that Jakes had to drive somebody home in that person’s own car and I had to follow them in his car. His wife was with me in his car. I did not know where our destination was. The traffic was thick and we were separated from one another. I cursed under my breath but she assured me that it is no problem. She said that she knew where they were going.
‘Big Deal’, I thought, but what a revelation it turned out to be. She started giving directions with detailed landmarks as we went along. She frequently asked for feedback as we drove. I asked her if she remembered all this from before she became blind. She said that she was born blind. Just when I thought we were lost forever, she told me to turn right at the next street corner and I will find Jakes at the fourth house on the left. Jakes was just coming out the house as we stopped in front of the gate.
While Jakes drove me back to my own car, I was amazed once more. As we drove along, he patiently explained to his wife, in vivid detail, everything he saw along the way. The traffic lights, the shops, other cars, pedestrians, trees, and everything else. Sometimes she probed him for more detail like color or size. He was her eyes.
Have a great day!

Of course. I like to know who I'm dealing with. I find it much easier to communicate with a picture, even if it may be a fake. As long as I can put a face to it, it is ok.
That is true. When build our expectations on a face, we are often disappointed or surprised. People say first impressions are seldom wrong, but I have found that they are often wrong.
A lovely and inspiring story, sounds like these guys had "true love" right there.
Ive always found blind people remarkably strong and resilient,,most of us moan if we get a headache or heartburn, have a bad day etc...(just human nature i know).
But when you think about how we take vision for granted, and the hurdles blind people face every waking moment,it really does demonstrate the inner strength and determination the blind possess.
In my experience blind people never seem to wallow in self pity, and are of great character..
That reminds me of a movie I once saw...about a guy suffering from Elephantiasis...he dated a blind girl who saw his inner beauty...
Nice, heartwarming story cat
ps: you don't have to be blind to 'see' or 'talk' with your hands... best language ever, words become redundant
The film you mentioned, forgot what its called but have seen it,,think the guys character name was "Rocky Dennis",and wasnt Cher his mum...
Or am i on the wrong script..
Now that you mention it, I don't think I've ever come across a moody blind person. I have probably only met about 20 blind people in my life and I have had regular dealings with no more than 5, but all of them were as you described.
Yes that is the movie I saw...Cher was in it and Sam Shepard too...thanks for the B-day wishes...39 again...lol...
Many movies have similar themes...the movie I speak of is a true story...
Ah, this one I remember!. Are we here now to review movies?
@Cocheta. I like the idea of going on a "blind date" when both parties are blindfolded.
In fact, I corresponded with someone here for a few weeks before I even saw what he looked like. We both discovered our personalities, our deepest fears and desires etc. via numerous emails and chats and he has now become my best friend.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The that story about 'What the eyes cannot see will not hurt the heart" must be true.
It is strange how something seemingly unimportant at the time, can stay with you for the rest of your life. Jakes is long dead now and I don't know what happened to his wife or their four children, but every now and again this episode will come up in my mind; as vivid as the day when it happened.
That is a lovely story!...
" Bless Their Hearts! "
And the most astounding part I did not even mention. She raised their four children single single-handedly. Her husband kept a regular job and she had to tend to her children like any other mother.
That's Great!....
I guess this is what true love is all about....
where would that be?
A remarkable person.
I did not have that much contact with them socially, but I can only assume that they were happy. There was nothing to indicate the opposite.
Trust you to come up with something like this. You're getting out of hand again. Maybe it to time to have another chat with your brother.
Ignore Bea. She's just up to mischief again.
I'm just curious which part you would touch first if you're blindfolded..
Can you see what you started now! Why don't you play on the railway line. The express is due any moment now.
I can only imagine that look on his face when you too are face to face
Bea, where exactly does he look?
for sure you will touch your favorite part first...feeling it's texture, size, length and temperature...
now, which part is it?
it's a perfectly simple and sensible question that requires a simple answer
why are you evading the issue?
I'm not talking to you again.
it's good to know who your preferences...
I'm glad Bea is here to show us the real you
