Try Whatsapp! The cool way to stay in touch on Android style phones, you dont even need to type, just speak into the phone and it types the text for you. Send or receive photos, chat in real time or just leave a message.
Despite the reluctance regarding e-mail addresses, seems more and more people are comfortable giving out their mobile number and is all the rage (apparently).
Of course, not all contacts pan out, so, if one morning you find the persons pic has been replaced by the ubiquitous faceless outline then you know you are no longer flavor of the month and have been de-contacted and likely had your number blocked. Goes to say you can do the same to others.

It is the quickest way to communicate nowadays! I am currently in two groups right now and it's so much easier to find out what is happening. A few weeks ago When the earthquake struck I created a family group quickly to check on everyone and it worked wonderfully.
You are right about giving out cell phone numbers but it is so easy to buy a new sim card I guess people can change when they are ready with no worries!
Have a great day!
Needless to say I don't trust it. Just like facebook and all the other gadgets.
I'll stick to the cs and skype. Till proven otherwise.
Recently I have also added some CS contacts from people living outside Europe.
Regarding the pic, people do change their picture from time to time - and so do I! This doesn´t mean because they have deleted you!
As for you Sola, I changed my phone for a newer model about 3 months ago and some contacts which were not on the SIM just disappeared (yours included!).
Maybe you were supposed to disappear?
been using it for years...so much better and easier than emailing
You should try it, it is really cool and easy to use.
I know people change the pics often, as do I, however when de-contacted the pic returns to a blue outline similar to the outline on CS when a person has no pic.
