The Gift of High Oil Prices

In hindsight, I see the era of expensive oil as being a gift to humanity. Because of high prices, we have developed reliable electric transportation, we are now looking into renewable natural resources, all while protecting our Earth.

I think sometime in the future each household will have their own source of renewable energy, whether it be solar or wind. Also, we will be using electric cars. We will then be able to power and heat our homes, after our personal power sources are paid for, for free, and we will be able to travel for free.

Thank you big oil companies. thumbs up

Im astonished that in the Middle East.where they use so much oil burning power stations.. vast areas of desert, endless sun..there isn't fields or solor panels...doh
john
Well that is putting a positive spin on high gas prices or oil...for me I do not have a car...live a few minutes away from work and close to shops!!cheering

But I like travelling...hope there is an alternative to fuel for planes...just heard about a solar powered plane...maybe in the future we can be more environmentally friendly...wine thumbs up
Renewable energy hopefully is the future, but I don't think it is enough to fulfill everyone's energy needs at the moment.

I'm thinking of electricity, in Germany they want to stop producing electricity from coal and also get rid of nuclear energy - which is fine, but there are people pointing out that it is not really realistic to achieve that. dunno

It is the way to go, I was thinking about a new heating system and would have gone with something else than oil (the current system is ok and a new one too expensive) and things like heat exchange systems or solar are an alternative.

There hasn't that much happened for cars yet, but electric cars are being produced, although not too many around here. conversing
Hello Ian,

That is a good point, with all the sun they have. However, I do suspect that they want to protect their earnings from the oil they sell. Maybe they could take their huge profits and start investing in solar energy. Who knows, they may discover a more economical way of manufacturing panels. One would surely hope they will see the environmental benefits.

Thanks

L.L.,

In most cases, there can be a positive to be found. grin

I also heard about that solar powered plane. Hopefully this is an indication of what our future has in store for us.

Thanks

KN,

Renewable resources is a big transition from what we were/are used to from the past 100+ years. Germany currently seems to be leading the world with the change. I'm hoping they are wrong when they say it is unrealistic. The technology seems to exist to make it possible.

About your new heating source. Have you looked into geothermal? I do not know a whole lot about it and not sure it is available in your area. But, it seems like a pretty simple set up....just run some water lines into the ground and circulate the water, using the earth's inner ground temperature for heat. I think you can maintain a heat level in the upper 60 degrees. Using that system, perhaps in conjunction with another heating source may save you a lot on your heating bill. Just a thought.

Thanks

One huge fusion reactor providing power for a billion is much better for the environment than a billion wind turbines.

This quaint pre-industrial view of the self-sufficient household is extremely unlikely when everything points towards greater integration and mass markets. I'm not saying there won't be any, but they'll be a feelgood novelty, charged at a premium, and not actually thast eco-friendly like a lot of "green" stuff already is.
