A House On An Island
Ever since I was a child, I wanted to live on an island, but if I must believe all these rumors about global warming, all islands will soon be joining Atlantis at the bottom of the ocean. Maybe I should buy a house on a hill next to the coastline. If those guys are right, I shall be on an island soon enough. But I will require a sort of a time frame; there will be no point in dieing the day after my hill became an island. There are so many things to consider. I will want to build a jetty at the right spot for when the water finally arrives. Who knows, I may win the lotto before then and may need a place to park my yacht.
And maybe a bridge to connect my island to the mainland. It will be much easier to build it before the water arrives, but I will need to know the eventual level of the sea. It is ok if the people laugh at me. I read about a fellow who build a massive boat on dry ground, very far from any significant body of water. The people laughed at him, but his boat sailed.
I wonder how the rising oceans will affect the climate. I want to live on a tropical island, not an arctic wasteland. Eish, so many ifs and buts, maybe I must scrap the whole idea.
Stay loose, it is weekend!!

Nevertheless I wish you all the best with your dream.
Don't worry, after the next polar shift your island may also be a tropical island. We are due for another polar shift any day now. That is if global warming does not win the race.
You should not laugh, this is serious business. You also live in a coastal region. You better be looking for high ground.
Absolutely not. That is where everybody in the northern suburbs will be running to when the water start rising. My island will be covered with squatters!
If so, u-boats needed ,or we only can be the food of fish before run up to Kilimanjaro...
According to WWII statistics, u-boats are just canned shark food. I wonder if sharks carry can openers with them.
When I bought the house 15 years ago I was going up and down on my bike and on foot with no trouble at all.
Now I can hardly manage the last part of the hill, let alone pushing the bike all the way up!
As you can see, I have a beautiful panoramic view.
According to the latest statistics about the oceans rising, I wonder if before I die I will have the beach at my doorstep?
You have a great weekend too!
By the way, with all the expected water, the moon may be in trouble too while it is 'down'.
My house is also on a hill. About 6 km from the sea. The nearest decent beach is about double that distance. I last rode a bicycle when I was still in school. It is unlikely that I would attempt this one with a bicycle and it is not as high or as steep as your hill.
Im just back from my afternoon nap
If you get this to work let me know wont open in my browser,
It may help you. I have seen maps of Ireland before and I have to say,
Its a big improvement. so long as parliament gets washed away then every thing else can only get better for a while.
Live! And Let Live.
PS. Anywhere! You want too. And can afford to live....
Yep it is working. Everything below 216 feet above the current sea level is gone. Southern Africa ain't doing too bad. I see all that is left of Denmark is a little island.
Islands are expensive but hills are useless real estate.
I know where Guyana is. I only said you are also living in a coastal region. Continent or no continent, everything below 216 feet above sea level will go under. And that will include a large chunk your country's real estate. You better run for the hills.
I don't know if South Africa if the richest in minerals, but we sure have vast riches under our soil. Rich enough to have caused two wars against the British empire.
Well, you better come sooner than later. The country is under poor management and some people foresee that we will be no better of than Zimbabwe in a few years.
I live near an estuary and seriously heavy-duty six-foot walls have been built along the shoreline so I am fairly hopeful I won't wake up to the downstairs a foot deep in water ... however thanks to global climate change I MIGHT be living in a tropical paradise one of these days? Believe it when I see it, we had the coldest winter on record just a few years ago and global warming doesn't seem very interested in Scotland.
Was your island pretty small? I always fancied one just the right size for a small village ... a ferry to the mainland ... and me of course queen of all I surveyed. Woulda been nice
so many lovely Islands in Philippines but I would prefer to live in the farm...but not to far from the shore either...quiet, fresh foods, fresh air, nice people....ahhh BLISS!
At half a degree rise per century, unless if there is a sudden escalation, it may take sometime before the polar caps are melted away. Mind you, we also had a cold winter. So much for global warming. I think we're going to wait a bit for high tide.
We cannot count to much on the existing islands. Remember they are preparing to join Atlantis.
Changing pics. TGIF.
That was a 'skelm' pic my father took while I was relaxing a bit after lunch. Too much wine and not enough song.
I'll build a house made of plastics and light weight woods then...
I had a look at the projected water levels. We'll do fine in SA. We'd still have part of the peninsula. Somewhat smaller but still here. Kwazulu will also lose some ground. It fact, Africa as a whole will survive. Some smallish losses in West and North Africa. The southern part of the USA and Europe will suffer. Florida, Holland and Denmark will disappear from our maps. Russia too will lose a lot of real estate on its northern shores.
It was like that about 34 million years ago so were heading that way again.
Just make sure you have a 215 ft anchor rope. That is how far it will rise.
let it melt...bring it on...
OK, let's start the fires. Scientists estimate that if we burn all the fossil fuels on the planet at once it will release enough carbon dioxide into the atmosphere to melt all ice on earth in about 5000 years. What are we waiting for? Let's get going.
are you insane? I still need to find my soul mate here!!! When that plastic house floats at least I've got someone who will keep me warm!
How have you been doing? Hope all is fine.
And Catfoot, don't believe in rumors, pleeeaaaasse!
that is no problem. It will be just you and I remaining. We won't have any difficult decisions to make.
