Do you read a lot?

If you do enjoy reading - Kindle or dead tree - you may be interested in beta-reading?

Beta readers read a book before it is sent for publishing: they are not critics, editors, or reviewers, they are a priceless bunch of people who like reading and find they like directly feeding back to the writer what they thought.

If you have ever wondered why a writer made what you thought was a mistake in direction, or wished you'd known why they'd made a decision, you may find you like beta-reading.

Anyway, I'm working on a book about seasoned singles - those coming back to the dating world, second time round (hardly a surprise to those of you who have read my blogs) and I'd dearly like some beta readers who know the world.

Message me if interested, or ask for more details in the comments. Betareading is unpaid, although if you get good at it (I'm very good) people will start offering to pay you to get your feedback. I would read yours with the greatest of pleasure, if you are also a writer.

I do have quite severe blocks on my profile (stop all but scammers, really) but am looking for a specific age group anyway, you should get through if suitable.

I love reading, old fashioned paper books, and of course my Kindle, but cannot image giving feedback on what I have read. I am not very opinionated over books. It is supposed to relax me or I use it to study with. No big thing.
I've always enjoyed reading but mostly magazines that are short stories, recipes.

I've never heard of Beta Reading. So that leaves me out.
Snookums and CC, it isn't a detailed feedback, and actually I usually write whodunits so that's where I find beta readers invaluable, my regulars either say 'huh I knew who the murderer was from the first chapter' (yikes. More red herrings!) or didn't notice a vital clue hidden so carefully that it was actually invisible. frustrated

My regular readers happen to nearly all be happily married with at least 20 years since they were last single and would be slightly shocked, I think. Or assume every experience was my own and then be very shocked.

Yes Sola getting to your comment next. rolling on the floor laughing
Sola, how drab is your life that you think it was more fun first time round? wow I had every intention of coaxing you to share some of your devilish stories from before you, you know, became a changed man. Huh.

Nah, my book wouldn't singe your fingers or steam up your specs. Make you shift around in your chair, perhaps... devil
Well it must have been fun first time around as they are coming back for seconds.

As for me divulging my sordid history.... Errrrrm.. Noooooooooo!laugh
I personally found second time round completely different. First time I was looking for a nice suitable man with ambition and drive who would also make a good dad for our kiddies, to play happy families with.

Second time it is all about interesting, rather than suitable, people. dunno
I do. And usually about 3 at a time. There are some that I have re-read, too.
Sorry had to dash to the shops - emergency - the milk had gone off. Yikes.

What sort of books do you read, Ed?
Hey, Willow that's great! There's a while to go, but I realized last night that I'm going to need new readers wow and it is surprisingly helpful to keep potential readers in mind when it comes to that editing editing editing stage - well, you must have the same. laugh
I've always appreciated my Beta Readers. I'm actually shelving my fiction writing for now and taking courses to be a health copywriter. I haven't decided yet if I will focus on Business to Business or Business to Consumer clients. But, I certainly look forward to being a Beta Reader for you.
Love a good book but never heard of a beta reader. The last great book I read, was " A suitable boy" by Vikram Seth. Fantastic! Would heartily recommend it. I believe the sequel -" A suitable girl", is due out in 2016.
I have long evenings with nothing much to do and love reading anything I can get. Unfortunately I have only this stupid tablet with a screen about the size of my hand.....I have fairly small hands.
Betareaders? Interesting term. I've had friends do this for years without hearing it called that. Good term, it totally makes sense.

I write myself, as well as teach and consult about writing, so much as I love the written word, I spend too much time reading already.

But getting feedback is a great idea. If you only ever hear about your work from industry people, it can sap your creative mojo. Best of luck, I hope your project goes well.
Ed, I also preferred the other Dan Brown books, esp (my memory!) is it Angels and Demons? You have interestingly eclectic tastes handshake
Cake, will look out for A Suitable Boy. (Hey, that's why I'm here, as it happens ...) my reading has really been slipping lately, because I am so often reading dutifully I sometimes really need to escape into something that just takes over and carries me along laugh
Molly I'm probably prejudiced but little beats a crime thriller for pure escapism, hehe. Enjoy ...

Eks, I appreciate the convenience of my kindle but yikes, those small screens .. can you adjust the text size at least for when crashed out after a long long day working on your fab adventure?
I do. And that's because as I read I also check out the authors recommendations.

Yes, it was Angel & Demons! The other symbol tomes are just as interesting by him.
Eleg, you can adjust the font size laugh

I find pulp font harder now, as it is usually smaller.

And I hate having to turn the pages when in bed, especially on a cold night!

Oh, and I meant to say, I'll beta your alpha-writing if you are stuck.
Molly, YAY. laugh yay
