"LONG DISTANCE VOYAGER"..(3)

Not Too Much happened This week
Mostly Things That One Must really have a Keen Eye To Zero In In The Situation
Anyway
While I Was driving In Pennslyvania(About 10PM)..I Happened To be The Only Vehicle On Highway 80 For miles..All There is To see is What The Headlights Show me In Front Of The Truck(Maybe 40 Feet or So..Thats it)
What I Did Learn Is
One must Be Ready For The Unexpected And be Ready To react In a Seconds Notice(Yes!!..I Said a seconds Notice!!)
Coming around a bend On This darkened Highway..Right There..As The Lights Came upon Them Crossing The Road at a Slow Pace were About 20 Deer
Being a 2 Lane Highway..Theres no Where to Go if Your In A Car
If Your driving A Tractor Trailer?...Hold On And Pray for The best!
You Cant Swerve as A car can...But You can "Veer" Just A little
And Thats What I Did(Nearly hitting The Last Deer)..Who Just kept At His/Her usual pace
Its No Wonder That Deer are dead All Over The highways...They are blinded by The Headlights And they Dont Know Whats Going On
Any Way...Im Happy To say..Ive yet To Run Over Any Animal
Its The 1st Week of November... And When I Walked On The grass In Ohio..There Were "Grasshoppers" Jumping All Over The Place
In Northern Indiana(On Route 20)The Amish Have Now switched To Their "Winter Carriages" Now..Complete With Enclosed Windows(It Was Raining And I Didnt see any Windshield Wipers Going Though
I Crossed Over The Portage River..The Maumee..The Croton...The Black River...The Vermilion...The Susqueana .And The Mighty Mississippi River
And Finally To end These Events
While Getting To The Other Side Of The Mississippi River(Coming Into Iowa)They Have An Electronic Sign That Spans The Width Of The Highway..and It Said
..."Whole Lot of Ruttin Goin On"......................
..."Watch Out For Deer!!"................................

I am glad u have never hurt anything. Congratulations.
-over here we hae lots of accidents with cars hitting moose... uh oh
Been close a few times, but (nock on wood) avoided them myself sofare...
thumbs up
Yeah Nam...Just love the way those plain spoken folks in Iowa are warning travelers about the deer idea : The "bambis" (deer) are busy right now...its like a giant "singles club" out there, lotsa lookin and hookin up ..Take care and hope you can continue your good driving record.. bowing thumbs up
Glad you made it back safe and sound.

Traveling northbound up to Northern Ohio and Indiana I saw dead deer and one of them from what I could tell had been hit in the middle of the highway which had obviously run over several times.

Been across the Maumee river more than once while traveling as well as visiting the town of Maumee itself. It was boring and not a whole lot to do there.

Traveling down to Tennessee while on the way saw some male elk trying to chase the females from one side of the rode to another.
Found it was during the rut.
A ranger had to chase the males to prevent them from chasing females across.

I also never hit an animal but have had some close calls though.
Hello Nam, handshake How ve you been, Nice to Know you have your wits about you when you re driving, yay yay yay I ve known drivers( of semis and regular Autos ) who were forever hitting wildlifedoh
My co workers used to laugh at me rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing ,because on hazardous stretches of highways I used to slow down, mind you I never ever hit any wildlife, or was sitting in the ditch yay yay yay .
Sounds like you re one of the better drivers on the road, thumbs up
You have a Good One there Bud,yay
Glad here also no Deer were hurt in the making of the blog-journey!

In Sweden while driving at speed on a rainy-dark day an Elk weighing about 2metric tons walked right out in the road, scary, I managed to stop luckily, it paused, looked my way then continued across the road
after though I kept my speed right down. Some stretches of road havent the high chain-link fences, this is where the collisions occur.
Good youre back safe
The difference between a dead animal in the road, and a dead bagpipes player?

Skid marks in front of the dead animal.

Your trips are a whole new world to me, Nam. thumbs up
wave Nam as per usual the most insightful and attention to surrounds is so fascinating.I always try and put myself in the situation of sitting in a big truck, and trekking through different cities. For me this would a job made in heaven because you get to see these places free of charge ,and that during working hoursgrin grin I could quite frankly see myself doing something like thathug Very pleased you had a safe trip backsmitten Stay warm,Stay safelips lips lips

A lot of drivers Have Barriers Put On The front of Their trucks
Even a deer can cause a lot of damage
As the trucks are Either Fiber Glass Or Plastic

Next time you see a dead Deer
Look carefully When you go by
Your Sure to see Auto or Truck Parts Around The Deer........................................................................................detective

Ive been fortunate as far as not hitting any animals
Its Just A Matter of Time As I Have no control Over Deer who Dont hurry across The road..(and I cant Stop)...........detective
Viking deer can do a lot of damage and I've witnessed the damages on other vehicles parked along the highways or while driving by a repair shop and in junk yards.

I found out that the headlights on vehicles blind them and they freeze.

At Least The State Of Indiana Takes Some Precaution

On The Indiana Turnpike....They Have Warning Signs That are equipped With Flashing Lights
When The Lights are Flashing?
That Warns drivers That an Animal is Present In The area

Im Sure To you That driving a truck Is A job Made In heaven

Theres A little more Than just driving

But Ill save That for Another day................detective
I was reading an article yesterday written by the Ohio Highway Patrol that 67% of the crashes between Non-Commercial vehicles and Commercial vehicles are mainly the fault of the Non-Commercial Vehicles. They obviously follow the trucks too closely, don't signal when passing Commercial trucks by cutting in to close by not giving the right away to them.

That the Ohio Highway Patrol are working together with the other states including Michigan and Indiana to hopefully make people aware.

Some people obviously don't care or they don't seem to realize that the commercial trucks don't slow down or stop on a dime.I've witnessed drivers in non-commercial vehicles flip the commercial drivers off or cuss and swear at them.

People don't realize that those huge trucks weigh tons.I've also seen bumpers stickers on the huge trucks which will read "Wide Turns etc.

One time I saw a truck driver as I was about to pass him kind of swerve over to the lane I was about to pass him in so I just backed off until I knew it was safe to pass.I couldn't tell if he was just overly tired or maybe reaching for something inside the cab.
I have a lot of respect for truckers. I can only imagine what they go through from maybe not getting enough sleep and have to deal with rude people.

I wish I could be a ride along just to witness for my self just what they go through while behind the wheel of those big rigs.

To Give you an idea Of weights For Tractor Trailers

An Empty Tractor And Trailer..On Average... Will Weigh Just About
33,000 Pounds
Thats 16 1/2 Tons!!...Thats bad Enough!!!

Never Mind That a fully loaded Tractor Trailer Will Weigh
80,000 Pounds
Thats 40 Tons!!!.... Going at 65 Miles an hour

If people were only Educated On This subject
Nope!!..All They Know is.... Theyre in a hurry......detective
Nam that is why the Highway patrol here in Ohio is working with other states to hopefully educate people.

Some people don't seem to realize that being behind the wheel of those big trucks isn't all just a bed of roses.

Obviously people are just thinking about themselves and are in a hurry rather than use common sense.

Some people should just never go back to renew their drivers license and just admit that they are to dumb and thoughtless to drive.
That Last Paragraph You Wrote?
Thats good for 5 Laughing Guys!!!!!

Viking there are times when the foot traffic is sometimes a lot more dangerous then the vehicles.laugh
