10 ways to keep a relationship working

1. love each other
2. don't lie
3. keep communication open
4. if you don't say sorry mean it
5. don't talk about your ex's
6. don't compare your past to your present
7. be aware of his/her feeling
8. when you had a fight, don't let the day pass without being fine
9. stay with him/her in any situation not just in good things.
10. don't be the perfect one but be the right one

Good relationship doesn't need a promise, terms and conditions...
it just needs a She who can trust and a He who can be loyal.

I completely disagree with you on #5. How on earth are you supposed to just bury the past as if it never even happened?
Your romantic past is an integral part of who you are.
Also don't you surmise that you can learn a lot from how your mate dealt with their other mates? I believe that listening to your mate discuss his/her past, and attempting to understand shows support and compassion.

As to #6 what's wrong with a bit of comparison? How else can you gauge where you are at today?

And I also believe laughing and having fun together is vitally important.
