He'd received treatment whilst in England when attending the World Cup. He met up with our PM over there and told him he was feeling better than he had done in years.
Collapsed and died suddenly at home in the wee hours of this morning.
A gentle giant who became a global rugby legend in a very short space of time.
My thoughts are with his family and loved ones....
I remember the run-up to the '95 World Cup Final in Johannesburg. The media was full of strategy on how James Small was going to tackle Lomu....the brick wall, without doing himself a serious damage
Too young to die, a true legend.
For many, watching him blast like a hot knife through butter in that world cup game against England was the first time they suddenly discovered the game of rugby could be interesting
