Carpe diem - seize the day

We've all experienced upheaval and reversals, I think. When we get married, we assume it will be forever. When we get a good job with a stable company, well, we no longer assume it will be until retirement, but we do think there’s a good few years in it. Even the small stuff - when we go to the shops, we assume they will have the products we want. We’re annoyed when they don’t, and yet millions live without shops and without even the basics we take for granted. Other people. We’re alright, Jack.

Life isn’t straightforward. We’re shocked when terrorists blast into everyday lives and end or disrupt them, but even normal life can change in a heartbeat with just one letter from the doctor. Someone can die in a car accident, or lose a leg in a fun outing to an amusement park, or be shot at an office party, and we suddenly realize life is not just one foot in front of the other and that if we follow the rules everything will be okay.

When life shows its teeth, priorities change. Things that mattered suddenly seem unimportant. Things on the to-do list change their order, sometimes dramatically. When tomorrow is no longer a given, does it change what do you intend to do with today? Would it / should it?

Even without external threat or sudden sickness no one ever knows if they will have a tomorrow.
I tend to think people just avoid thinking about it unless they are sick or injured.
Even though we all know it is not true deep in our minds we will live forever because we cant think about death and being dead.
So even without the threats and illness we should seize the day and live smile laugh and love while we truly can cheers

Shaken, I cherry-picked from your quote, you are 100% right. Let's spread the word cheering
wow Latin, we're going up market today dancing personally I'm spending the day working on things to make my life easier in the future, whilst I can still do it, just in case I do live long enough that I get to a time when I can't help

Generally, our lives are set up to think of the future, whether we like it or not.

Work now to pay the mortgage at the end of the month, to pay for retirement at the end of our lives.

Usually, the only time we are present in our present, unless we practice mindfulness, is when we are out in nature. Nature has a way of making us grateful for simply existing.
Hi Elegs.wave Interesting blog.
I agree that we should all take a step back, from time to time and appreciate all that we have. However, as Molly says, we are designed to think about the future. It is in our very nature. If we did not, nothing would get done. What we do today, will have an effect on our tomorrows. Just think of all that the human race has achieved. If we did not plan and invent, we would be extinct by now. Unfortunately, there are far too many people out there who simply, "seize the day" and never think about the future. It is easy to become lethargic and just sit back on our laurels. There are far too many people in power, doing just that. Hence, the problems facing so many countries in this world.
By all means, take time out and enjoy nature but remember, if we don't plan for the future, there will be no nature to enjoy. And there will always be that "rainy day", just around the corner, that we didn't want to think about and didn't plan for.peace
Elegsa, sometimes life can be real cruel to us.crying let me not show you my teeth..( joking)

Molly, right now nature is lost in impenetrable darkness and has been since 4 pm. I think there are stars, though. Will pop out and check when I'm not pinned down by borrowed (and extremely WARM) laptop. cool

PAC, every word is true but right now, right NOW, I am seizing the moment and it is great. I'll go back to sensible tomorrow? hug
