Defining friendship
What would I call those people on CS I would enjoy having a drink with if the chance came up, would go out of my way to meet, have talked to a great deal over the last nearly-two-years, and really like?I follow, and am followed by, hundreds of people on Twitter - I've met, hmm, about twenty of them, a fluctuating group of us meet up several times a year, always fun. Friends?
I have hundreds of friends on Facebook - some genuinely are, scattered all over the world, we often haven't seen each other in years and may never meet again, but we share news and photos. Some are colleagues from earlier jobs, and some are writers I may one day meet. Facebook calls them all friends.
Real life, a handful. Very highly valued.
Easy to find out who's a true friend - screw up, or go through a challenging time, then see who sticks around.
Okay, not easy. But definitely interesting!
Yet what is a person who is entertaining, amusing, but ducks out whenever they have something more interesting on, or you aren't as much fun as usual? We always do enjoy catching up.
There need to be more words than just 'friend'

Friends are important in my life Elle. They do give us joys and happiness.
Im fortunate enough to have two BFF's, one a school friend, we have always stayed in touch, seen each other get married & have children/gran children.
The other, my holiday best friend, we have yearly holidays together & speak for hours on the phone lmao, god only knows what we find to talk about.
FB friends are mostly family & prev work colleagues.

It really wasn't that bad,
I have moved so much i make friends for the time I am somewhere.
Long time friend past away last year, she was friend 40 year. Everytime I move and came back here she provided a pillow for me untill I found new abode. We were opposites but oh very good support and friends to each other. I miss her more than I miss anyone.
However I can hear her say my name ------- get on with it move on so that is what I do, with fond memories for mischieve we got up to in younger years.

She moved back to Ireland about 15 years ago so we now see each other at least every week or so, if only for dog walking and a chat.
Even when we don't get to meet for a time because of circumstances, it doesn't matter, because we both know the other is only a phone call away, day or night. That's what friendship is about - undemanding but solid.
