Who Here Is A Home Brewer?
A friend has a quite sumptuous growth of hops covering his back fence, and starting on the neighbor's garage roof. His problem? He doesn't know what kind of hops they are. I guess there are different types that are used in different stages of brewing beer, or brewing different styles of beer.
Does anyone know how to tell by looking, smelling, tasting, or whatever what kind of hops he has? And how they might be useful in brewing?
Mind you, I'm only asking about this for the sole benefit of my friend.
I'm in NO way thinking there might be ANYthing in this for me!
Such as ........
Any assistance will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Okay, I know ale doesn't have hops and beer does.
And once you've got your mash going I know how to make small beer and how to make rotgut.
India pale ale is loaded with hops.
I believe that was done because it was brewed in Britain, and the hops helped preserve it when it was sent to Ind-ja for the enjoyment of the troops.
IPA is one of my more favored brews.
Ummm...Biff? Are you sure you WANT me to believe that one?
........
Hops are a very small part of the mixture ,from memory just 3 heads gave the beer a very strong bitter taste
Good luck and good health
