What Frank said -

I love the old swing stuff but I don't know the words, it's before my time, I just like it in the background. Tonight Frank Sinatra sang something that caught my attention. I listened again. And again. And wrote down a few of the lines. And thought yes. That's me, tonight. That's where I am.

I’ve been a puppet a pauper a pirate a poet a pawn and a king, I’ve been up and down and over and out and I know one thing, each time I find myself flat on my face, I just pick myself up and get back in the race –

That’s life, that’s life and I can’t deny it, many times I thought of cutting out but my heart won’t buy it, but if there’s nothing shaking come this here July –

I’m gonna roll myself up in a big ball, and die.
.

Well, maybe next July. laugh I know, I know, dramatic. I have moods. Welcome to this one.

But just putting one foot in front of the other - that's not LIFE. That's existence. I want it all. And I want it now.

So how's your Friday going? grin

biffey what do you call your Rose petal...rose pointing dancingsanta
Ah Biff ~ That's my signature tune, my favourite song by Frank, love it .
Thats life that's what the people say, you're riding high in April, shot down in May.... I can relate to that.

I love the Jazz songs of the 30s too and the women singers. The lyrics are great too. Billie Halliday etc., Enjoy !!hug
Biff If you ask another woman that I am gonna hunt you down in the hills of MEath and shoot that thing dangling from your right off. cool sad flower boxing Biff ignore him !!!!
Sorry Biff ~ that message was for Leony who has gone mad tonight.. fullmoon ??
Leony - no, I got nothing, I don't even know what we're talking about!

laugh

Rose petal? Seriously? wow
Phew, GG, for a moment I thought you'd gone a bit loopy!! wow

I seem to have been missing some interesting conversations rolling on the floor laughing
Frank was a great singer but he didn't know the words to the National Anthem.

When I worked for the Los Angeles Dodgers we had him sing it before a game one time and he requested the sheet music. The guy that was responsible for it never got it and poor Ol' Blue Eyes just stood there in Center Field while the music began. Hee Hee!!
Biff Every woman getting asked the same question on the blogs tonight, Leony is on a mission...doh
Tired. I want to nap. daydream
Early this morning I was listening to some music on YouTube and also listened to That's Life by Ole Frank.

I also like the one My Way by him too.

I can sometimes relate to both.
Hi GG that is why I didn't respond to his question.
Ed, yikes that's bad, at least learn the words when you're being paid a fortune for the gig!

I like watching rugby and I do enjoy all those huge guys singing their national anthems in the world cup games, their hands on their hearts, singing away or, sometimes, just miming ...
Oh well Leony if you're doing research you must frame the question right to get the answers you want laugh

GG I do like this music but maybe not tonight, I'm in a basically good mood but perhaps a little more volatile than I had realized rolling on the floor laughing

CC I'm sure My Way will come up any time now and yup, one of my favourites too! That's one of the few where I HAVE listened to the words before now, they're great. daydream

It just seems that - well, it's Friday night. And 5 minutes ago it was last Friday night and I don't seem to have achieved much in that 5 minutes.

sigh
Biff, Nobody could or can sing a song like Frank, the master!
Sorry for the spelling again ! Too much vino! blushing
Biff ~ Ccincy Do you like that song he sang 'When I was 17 it was a very good year ' i find it very sad... wonderful lyrics. I adore Frank, the rest of the Ratpack are good tonight.

Feeling volatile Biff, thats allowed... go with it.
Don't bump into Mr. Rose Petal or you could collide. rolling on the floor laughing You have been warned !!!laugh very mad
Frank confused oh yer I remember him as a child, couldn't stand all that yodelling doh come to think of it that should maybe read "I remember you ooooh" grin
Robby - Dean Martin's Volare ... but yes, Elvis, and Tom Jones, hell, a whole bunch of them.

Enjoy the vino wine
GG - my favourite Sinatra of all is 'I got you under my skin' daydream
Z hug thank you for breaking the mood - you heathen rolling on the floor laughing

You'd better run for it laugh
Z you remember him as a child... I don't remember him yodelling ? Thought that was Frank Ifield ?hmmm
Well GG, Harry Connick Jnr and Michael Buble..talented, but a poor man's version of the real thing!
Mind you, HC jnr plays a mean piano and even double bass very well..so,pretty good muso.
Yes, 'Got you under my Skin' with The Count Basey Orchestra!
I sound old!!
I'd pass on his singing, but thought he was a pretty good actor, particularly liked Von Ryan's Express, some of which was filmed round here you know professor
ZM, how can you say that..he was a brilliant singer..such phrasing, light and shade and timing sense.
Robby, remember what Biff said, I'm a heathen grin
wave There were two giant entertainers of the 20th century.
The first half, Al Jolson, the second, Sinatra. Incredible singer, one of the few to master controlled breathing.thumbs up
Alleluya Pedal applause
I wouldn't be a massive fan (like Z, the heathen), but I don't mind hearing him occasionally, or Dean Martin either.

Just never been a crooner type of moll.
I have just written a long message, hit send and instantly burst into flames of horror and embarrassment.

What have I DONE???????????????????????????????????? doh frustrated

I blame Sinatra. I do. And Martin. And Louis Armstrong doh

I just wish I'd been drinking, then I could blame wine as well. doh

And now I have to make tracks before the message gets read. doh

Night all, love you lots. If you too have become schmaltzy and sentimental listening to these songs, do not, I repeat, do NOT, write any messages.

doh

bouquet
GG I don't believe I've ever heard it.
That is because you women cave in( time tension factor )
Men are stubborn and easily distracted. It could be weeks before
he mails ya. Start flirting again.laugh
Peds, that is oh so truelaugh
Ccincy I think you'd like it .
Robby you are right, Sinatras breathing technique was second to none.
Connick is a great musician, more than a singer... I still like him, ditto buble though not a patch on Frank S.

I've only like Sinatra in recent years.. I was too young to appreciate the music, violin dancing waiter
Ah Biff

That awkward moment when you hit enter instead of erasing.

Been there, done that, hated myself for that moment of weakness...

Next time... een teen die kop! laugh hug
Molly - hic innocent wine beverage delivery
Peds, you volunteering? batting giggle

I think I have forgotten how. uh oh Be gentle with me ...
GG, Robbie Williams had some crackers as well, if we're talking modern crooners.

I'm not a crooner fan as such, but some songs really work for me.

Oh, by the way, guess what's playing NOW. Righteous Brothers, Unchained Melody. I think the universe has a cruel sense of humour sometimes. laugh
Diova - een teen die kop, ja. Miskien. doh

Turns out the cat typed the whole message, AND hit send. Bad kitty. innocent
Bed timewave
