ah! your own personal stomach pump.....

A new weight loss device offers a novel approach to cutting calories: draining them from the stomach before they are fully digested.

The AspireAssist system consists of a thin tube implanted in the stomach, connecting to an outside port on the skin of the belly. About 20 minutes after finishing a meal, users connect the port to an external device, which drains some of the recently-consumed food into the toilet.

The manufacturer—Aspire Bariatrics based in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania—says its system removes about 30 percent of food stored in the stomach before it begins causing weight gain.

The Food and Drug Administration approved the device on Tuesday for adults who are obese, with a body mass index of 35 to 55, and have not been able to lose weight with other methods.

I'm taking orders....laugh
Works for me as I'm already investing heavily in rubber gloves since Map suggested everyone in the world should hands professor grin
That's hold hands doh
lol......Z, I wonder when they will come out with the Dual Turbo model. You insert one on each side of your stomach and achieve double the weight loss.........laugh
well the stomach parts business will be booming...I should look into that onegrin
M, I understand obesity is a disease for these very large body masses, but once again another band aid to fix a severe chronic problem....
they will become so dependent on this that they would probably keep eating more and more because they will now have the room to store more....doh
Hi Sands. Me thinks it´s bloody disgusting! barf

Why can´t people just go on a diet? dunno
Hi Dani, for these large body masses the diet (s) have no effect. A disfuncional receptor in the brain constantly tells them they're hungry and they must satiate.....
Bulimia nervosa is a bloody nightmare doh having lived with someone who suffered from it I can say without any doubt Sands is right, they would just use it binge eat more doh or more exactly barf
Z, I wonder since everyone is binging on Netflix, if bulimia is also on the rise...........laugh
Sands, we shouldn't really laugh as it a deadly serious illness, but it has reminded me of something funny, whilst I was still living in London part time, my flat was broken into whilst I was away, I had a very hard job explaining to the policeman that attended the crime scene why there was a padlock on my kitchen door laugh I should add she requested that be fitted.
The cause of the eating disorder should be targeted, not supply devices to make the problem worse.
Z, yes, I understand it is a very serious disorder, and I've heard about people who have gone the padlock route.......must be just horrible.....
Correct Molly! thumbs up hug
M, very true, but as I'm sitting here thinking bariatric surgery had been very successful....that's a procedure where they put a band around the stomach...that makes sense....have to run out to the store...be back....
Why is it Americans always think surgery first???

Getting to the root of the problem does not involve a weapon knife.

Psychological assistance and monitored diet and exercise will help much quicker than a scalpel.
surgery wouldn't work for Bulimia, you'd never get a doctor to do it for a start, the women tend to be thin or thinnish, as they rarely get to digest their food anyway.
M, you will appreciate this one...as I driving to the store a song comes up from the 80's the girl was called 'The Weather Girl' and the name of the song was it's raining men.....never ever heard of it beforelaugh
I know the song alright, Sands

It was very popular over here at the time.

The phenomenon never occurred thoughmumbling

laugh
Sands, you've never heard that song before doh careful you'll have pieceawhatever asking if you've lived under a rock next doh
Z, definitely no bariatric surgery on a bulimic person.

M, surgery brings in the bucks, but seriously there are few and few effective alternatives..
Sands, because you live there (and possibly make money from it?grin ) , you don't realise how much more quickly surgery is suggested as a first option in the USA than elsewhere,

Suggested is probably too mild a word, there is often an alternative option given.

Surgery would only be an option given for most complaints in other countries when nothing else works, or there is truly no viable alternative.
Ok, this blog is closed for comments Ken says this is old news....ok, move on folks, nothing to see here........laugh

thanks Ken
the song was new to me and I couldn't wait to tell M......who would have guessed you guys know it so welllaugh
well they have now what they call the Da Vinci machine that is so cool. My friend just had it done on his cancerous kidney. They put 5 little holes in you and in this case removed all the cancer using powerful microscopes so, in that respect we are getting less invasive......applause
Z, got me really laughing on that onerolling on the floor laughing
I think there's enough already....uh oh
But Sands. That would encourage very poor eating. And ppl will become obsessed with food instead of being more active

I would not date a guy who used that. No way. dunno
Make chocolate and all sweet things take like celery..problem solved.
