pets

What are your thoughts on pets being companion service animals?
Research shows that animals have aided in the healing process of some patients.
Animals have been known to help all sorts of people with different mental health problems.
Some say a service animal is for specific disabilities..such as the blind..seizures..ect.
others will say it should be any health problem like ptsd..aniexty..ect
Some of the issues that are discussed that its unsanitary. And go on disgust
about how the lil dogs that sit in the carts is not good because of unknown germs they cary on their paws
and body that get left in the carts or floors. Service animals quidlelines are always going to be a debate.
Let it begin. Thoughts. And go.

We use animals for the companion service here in nz. Dogs. miniture horses. Even a goose. And other animals. They get washed etc before hand. There are strict tests and other things that they have to pass. It is one of the most wonderfully beautiful things that helps sick and elderly etc. I love seeing the smiles and how much better people feel afterwards. Brilliant idea.
Hello, wave I have MS, need a cane to walk, I ve noticed people tend to shy away from people with disabilities.(?) I have a 14 yr old toy poodle at my side. At times he can be a chore to care for, but for the companionship, loyalty, and love he brings into my life, He s priceless, yay He definitely keeps a smile on my face and no docter has done that. Besides being hot water bottle, foot warmer, hes also therapy for my illness, yay Who can argue with that, confused
They are a wonderful thing, but are not trained as well as guide dogs and so should not be allowed in the same places guide dogs are, such as restaraunts etc.
Pets are not half as unsanitary as they make them out to be. We had pets most of the time. They were not even bathed that often and none of us ever got ill because of them. Think they are excellent as companions and can aid in the treatment of mental and other illnesses.
I have depression and my pets, though they are not service animals, make life so much better.
I have two companion pets. One is registered. The other is not. My service companion pet is special needs. So I am not sure whom rescued whom lol. I do not take my dog every where I go due to here special needs. However she does her duty as a service dog and she is a gamily member. My other dog that isnt a registered service dog I am teaching sign language. I am teaching her because I was born with hearimg defincianies and if I get to the point of not hearing I will have friend to help with little things.
I think service and companion gos do amazing work, and both them and family dogs should be used more in hospitals and retirement homes as it is very beneficial to people.

However, I do have one concern, and it related to the dogs.
For example, guide dogs. They are with puppy-walkers for the first 2 years of their lives and have a fun normal puppyhood. But once they start working, still as very young dogs, they never again get a chance to run and play as normal dogs do. They are working dogs, end of. That continues until their retirement 8 years later, when many are too old to enjoy life to the full.

I'm not saying they are not cared for or loved. They are. They just lose out on a big part of what being a dog is, and I find that a little sad.
