Good advice to avoid an escalating confrontation: take a walk and cool down, or climb up onto your roof (don't fall down!). Personally, I think taking a walk would be the safer option.

What disturbs me with this blog is, why would you need a "safer option"? You need a choice to prevent this?
With all that said, and considering it coming from a man, safer for who?
What happens if your g/f attacks you? Are you allowed to defend yourself?
She attacks you with a knife. What are you supposed to do? Allow yourself to be stabbed?
Clearly it all depends on circumstances.
Someone attacking you with a knife or a gun is to be met either with evasion (if possible) or proportional self-defence with lethal force authorized as a last resort.
If the gal hits you or slaps you then you've got to resist the urge to retaliate in kind. Get the hell outta there!
