I think, anyone running for a public office should

have to live (for 6 months minimum) like the people they will be representing. I mean, how, otherwise, how could they understand what our struggles are? Let them understand that the tip they leave for a nice dinner, could be all some have to live on for a month. That some people can't afford to be sick. That living "paycheck to paycheck" is frustrating and challenging..... That a difficult decision is NOT whether to buy the $300.00 boots or the $1500.00 boots, but whether you can afford to buy boots at all....just sayin'... professor

lgs....a great idea.

I would think the two we have now would not even have a clue about what you are talking about.

It is all about the "me,me,me" with them.
I KNOW.....How cold they POSSIBLY understand that, while I HAVE insurance, I can't afford to USE it because between the out-of- pocket and the deductibles it's like having no insurance at all very mad
They have a "Let them eat cake" kind of insight....
lgs one mp tried it here in England -------for 1 weekrolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

He lost a stoneteddybear teddybear
laugh laugh Not as "easy" as it looks.... wave
That is what I like about Bernie Sanders. He had this selfless-ness about himself and a genuine "for the people" persona.

They mentioned his and the other two's net worth...

Hillary was in the millions.
Trump in the billions.
and
Sanders, only a couple of hundred thousand.

Something tells me, that is why we dislike the current two choices we have today. When you have somebody like Bernie Sanders running against these two, the gap is so "huge." lol
Now you see i am used to smaller portions so I could not loose a stone in 1 weekmoping moping
Johnny....Not sure I agreed with Bernie on everything, but at least he was FAR more close to understanding "our" issues.
Yes for me looking inwards he sure was best of bunchhug and safest tooteddybear
Red....He IS far more down to earth, above board and calmer in his nature, I agree. thumbs up
Good Morning Lgs.
Burney seems more in tune with the peoples needs, I agree. He has been in office long enough and knows his way around. I really do not want to see our country go socialist though. I am afraid of that. Just from my studies of history.
However, we have lost control of our republic, and demarcate is so open that it seems to have been a breeding ground for large corporations, liberal think tanks and major world controlling powers. Too flexible I would state. We are loosing so many liberties.
A layman in office could possibly make a difference?
I am not sure how to accomplish that?
I think, that our future holds some rough weather ahead of it.
I run a small operation, and the government paper work is just overwhelming. I am surprised I can get anything accomplished.
I wish I could write off every hour I spend to keep on top of it all. And I am sure I could, if I were to hire some one. But, where is the moneys going to come from to do that.
What a catch 22.
Cheavy...I think the middle working class is on the verge of extinction....It saddens me that we are slowly becoming the minority and yet, without US, the rich can't get richer and poor lose their entitlements. We get less and less help but have more and more to "fund". Scary times.....
From what I have read, when our founding fathers wrote up the constitution, some of them felt that it was too liberal. To open for miss use. Many of them felt that a Monarchy may be a better way??
When it was written, no Lawyers nor Catholics could hold an office position.
That did not last long.
I am not worried about Catholics, but those lawyers are a whole other situation.
I feel that 6 months is too short of time. 20 to 30 years of struggle as a layman may be the ticket. That way, no one could hole office till they were 40? perhaps 50.
Of course, then they may become too inflexible?? Even seniale!!
However, not being able to hold an office post, whether city, county state, etc. I am pretty sure they would be entering office with no moneys. At least with the way our government has the people trussed up as it is.
Perhaps, no private funding allowed. A set rate that the government would supply after the initial standings.
That may open up a broader field of electable choices?
I wish I had an answer. No corporate "favors" would go a long way...No "I scratch your back you scratch mine". The special interest groups like the pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies get to write their own paychecks, so to speak, and are given free reign to do pretty much whatever they want because of the "favors" they have provided..... moping
Than I feel that 2 term limits max for any public office held.
That way, when some one has worked their way through the ranks, they would have the experience necessary by the time they reached the highest offices.
I agree. I think all governmental positions should have term limits. That way, they don't become complacent. Always fresh ideas and fresh eyes on the problems that face us all. professor
You do have me thinking.
Maybe, no "out side business" while in office. A comfortable salary, paid for by the people, based upon the office of standing.
If one is going to take a kick back, a stock option tip, etc, they would have to wait till the end of their term to collect.
At least I find that an interesting thought?
Absolutely! Serve the needs of the COUNTRY while in office not you own PERSONAL needs. Good idea applause
I am hoping some other people will supply some ideas. I have so much respect for so many people on this site. I would love to hear their input.
Looking forward to checking on your blog all day.
daydreamHillary starring in...

YOUTUBE Maid To Order (1987)

It's a two minute trailer.

Not that I'm picking on Hillary. It's just that I can't see The Donald as a maid...
and 'Butler To Order' wouldn't be a good title for a movie.

Karen Kwiatkowski for Prez!

lgs, wave I love your idea, yay I d love to see those running for public office, use a soup kitchen for awhile, or stand in line at a foodbank. Maybe do without a vehicle for month or two. The list is endless, have thier wages cut, or have no job for awhile.... The things I ve mentioned sure changes a persons perspective on things. wow
1....I know. Walk a mile in the other guys shoes for a while. It would humble them (I would hope) and give them a taste of what the real problems are. I don't want a hand out...I've always worked and always made my own way and always made the best out of what I have, BUT, give me access to insurance I can afford.....gas that doesn't cost an arm a leg....medications that don't cost a month of my income. Common sense things that would help tremendously....
And, all of those requests are achievable. Just cut the graft!
