Greatest (consumer) inventions in the last 20-25 years

Today my garage opener decided to stay closed. So, investigating the problem resulted in opening it up tp see the main (plastic) drive was broken in half. Off with the model number to Google we went, and within 5 minutes I had the new part on order and scheduled for delivery on Tuesday.

Last year my gas heater broke on the coldest day of the year. fortunately I have 3 heaters and took the part needed from the one heater to the other heater. But, found the part number, went to Google and had the part within 2 days.

The internet in my eyes is the best innovation mankind could have developed for the consumer. After that comes the Cell Phone. But, the cell phone would not be that great without the assistance of the internet..... beer

Hi Blue, well if you just started with the flushing toilet in the last 20-25 years then I can understand your excitement...grin
yes Biff, I think the microwave is the best asset to the kitchen......and it's true the internet is killing the local brick and mortar establishments. But, if this was years ago, I would of had to drive all over town to find someone who would carry the part I needed and then wait a week or more while they ordered it in.
Sands, as a true Devils Advocate I have to say that years ago, probably only one or two companies in the area supplied the original products, people bought locally, and therefore the supplier, or the local shops, would carry parts as a matter of course. Because of the internet we buy from all over the place and sometimes really struggle to get replacement parts a few years later.

Just sayin'

Signed
D.Advocate,
Biff, your correct, but what amazes me is the garage opener is 12 years old now and I found the part in 5 minutes. I guess that's the part that surprises me the most. I believe manufacturers are, by law, suppose to carry replacement parts for 10 years. So, the heater part was 11 years and the garage part 12......I love the availability and ease.....makes you want to fix more things......grin
And I wondered why Lithium batteries caught on fire? Sands are you 'Appy now!

As A Matter Of Fact! I Was Thinking About This The Other Day......thumbs up
Hi Sands,

I agree with you. The internet has helped me and others I know, when we've needed to fix an appliance, a TV, auto repair and so on. There is the "How to" do it yourself videos or instructions on the internet for almost all models of autos, appliances, etcetera. These helpful tidbits have helped many people save money.

Of course, not all things can be "fix it yourself" type jobs, but many are, if we're willing to take the time to get it done.

Have a cool day. cheers
Hi Angel, hope your doing well. Seriously, who needs a library anymore.......??? If you can't find it on the net it doesn't existcheers
True that, but somehow we need to sit and watch the football game at the same time. Get basted together.beer
Hi Rob, absolutely correct, in days past I would have just bought a new garage door opener and been done with it. But, knowing you can get what you require actually makes it fun to fix things.......enjoy your Sunday...cheers
Oh, Rob I forgot......great point....the how to videos......I went to the dealership to find out what they charge to replace a cabin air filter in my car.....$89. I said WHAT? He said it's tricky. Went home looked at a video ordered the filter and installed it in 2 minutes.........applause
