"THE POWER OF CHRISTMAS EVE"..(2)

It Was On The Night...Of Christmas Eve ...One Hundred And Four Years Or So Ago...During World War 1 ... That The Allied Soldiers..Entrenched Only About 100 Yards Away From The German Lines...Heard A German Soldier Singing In German.."Silent Night"....As They Listened...Some Allied Soldiers Began Singing The Same Song In English...Along With The Germans

And Then... ...Some Allied Soldiers Saw A German Soldier Walk Out Of His Trench...Walk Out On What They Called "No Mans Land"...And He Was Heading Towards Them............"Was This A Trick?" They Thought........But Then... They Realized The German Soldier Was Unarmed....And They Went Out To Meet This Brave Soul

Before They Knew It...German And Allied Soldiers... Were Out There Together.....Exchanging Handshakes..Trading For Cigarettes... And What Have You
There Was Even A Game of Soccer Played... Between The Opposing Sides That Christmas Day
For That Brief Time....They Were Brothers

It Took Christmas Eve..To Briefly..Bring These Soldiers Of War To Reality
For That Time..They All Mustve Wondered..."What Ta Hell Are We They Doing Here?"

That My Friends...Was And Is...."The Power Of Christmas Eve"

(Its A Shame... That Only Hours Later...They Went Back To Killing Each Other)

Yes it's to bad they couldn't have just stayed in peace with each other...
1914, 1915, 1916, there were incidents in no-man's land on this night. Only one soccer match that I heard of.

I've always thought it terribly sad that the War Office on both sides tried to suppress the stories. From their point of view they certainly didn't want their soldiers seeing The Others as anything but depraved psychopaths who must die.

It's hard to kill another human being. You have to believe they are twisted, depraved, inhuman, and would kill you first.

Much like the stories we are being told now.

After That Brief.... But Friendly Encounter With Each Other
The Regular Soldier..(On Both Sides)
Received Orders ...That There Would Be No More Friendly Encounters

Sounds Like Insanity From Both Sides... Id Say

I Wonder How These Same Soldiers Felt
After Receiving Those Orders?

(After All..Just Hours Ago....They Had Not The Reason To Hate Each Other)

And Now...They Are Supposed To Try And Kill These Same People?

What A Feeling That Mustve Been........................................................................detective
You can completely understand how soldiers come back from war with huge stress - acting against nature, for their country, and hoping everything they were ever told was true ...
I Understand Exactly What Youre Saying Ele

I Lived It For 369 Days Way Back Then

Its The Politicians... And Arm Chair Generals ....That Initiate The Fighting

Its The Regular Guy... At The Bottom... Who fFghts It

It All Comes Down To This

The Regular Guy Goes To The Battlefield

Doesnt Really Know Why...........Hes Just There

But Suddenly...That Other Guy He Knew.......Has Just Had His Head Blown Off

Now................The Regular Guy... Has A Reason ...To Kill Those On The Opposite Side

"REVENGE".............................................................................................detective
Hello Nam,handshake Thats a nice story about the power of Christmas eve, Thanks. Around here, where I live, during the christmas season, I see neighbors who don t care for each othervery mad putting aside their differences, and prejudices to wish their neighbors a heartfelt MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Not a bad or hurtful word is heard during the CHRISTMAS season, maybe the power of CHRISTMAS EVE spills over to the whole CHRISTMAS SEASON.
Yes - as the death toll goes up, the revenge factor takes over and makes it much simpler, killed or be killed, and even the score.

Humans do terrible things to other humans when they can dehumanise them - the Japanese keeping prisoners in tiny cages - the German concentration camps - and it was the British who first invented concentration camps, and ended the Boer war by seizing the Boers wives and children and starving them. The boers had no choice but to give in, but thousands of their women and children died. It was over 100 years ago but they will hate the English forever.

And it all starts with those cosy generals in their armchairs.
Hello Oney!!!
Great To See Youre Still Here

Yes
That is Quite Possible Of What Youve Just Said

But What Is Phony About Some Of It............ Is

When We Start Getting Near Thanksgiving................... (Here In The USA)

Everybody Wants To Feed The Poor... And The Homeless

And Then...Come January 2nd?

We Dont And Wont...Hear About These Very Same People Any More

Nam, I couldn t agree more, we have the same situation here. (our countries are so similar) Food banks are noticed in the festive season by alot of people, then forgotten the rest of the year, confused Our Salvation Army collects donations in the festive season only, most likely because theres no volunteer help the rest of the year, confused
Too bad the generous mode of the festive season could not be with us year long,
Oney

I See Youre Not "Up To Date"

With The Salvation Army

Theres No Such Thing As Volunteers With The Salvation Army

If You Didnt Know
These People Collecting ZDonations?
Are being Paid "Minimum Wage For Their Services

So
Whatever You Give
Is More Likely Going To Pay The "Volunteeers" Wages

Oh..And l]Lets Not Forget All The Office Workers And The "Higher Ups"

How do You Think They Get Paid Oney?
By Our Donations..................................................detective

(Dont Look Like Much Gets To Those Who Really Need It...Now Does It?
Nam, I know alot of volunteers get paid, I know one nice lady, (with a disability like myself ) ringing the bells for sally ann kettles, in REGINA, who doesn t get paid. Shes told me they can t get volunteers, no pay. I do know the people asking for donations over the phones get paid, 2 good friends told me this. They have to donate a few hrs each day, they then get paid. Different all over.
I know in my youth I did some volunteer work for the church, and never, ever would we have thought of getting paid. Times have changed.

Yeah, let's have 'peace' for twelve hours or so, while the differing country's Sergeant Majors' have cigars and whisky with their enemy and laughing along they both realise... Set their men free and let them be the friends they should have all been in the first place!
