Banned At U.S. Border

A Canadian citizen was turned away at the American border...they asked her if she was Muslim and her thoughts on Trump...doh

A simple day of wanting to shop turned into being detained for hours and questioned...roll eyes

This is a video clip of her story...

I'm not surprised Lou.

What's your point exactly?

There's so many denied entrants, but are you making an issue because she's a Muslim?
it's a shame this happened. what's worse is someone asking how one feels about Trump...that has the potential for detaining both parties involved, for hours.
Lind

Turning back a Muslim woman who just wanted to go shopping is rather ignorant...it just shows you the mindset of people...

I can imagine tourism will be down this summer in your country...dunno
Vetted coming into U.S...It's because our Canadian neighbors are not vetting.dunno
So far most illegals are shopping more Northerly.Like the EU exodus, for better benefits to Belgium.
Free

Yes it is such a shame...funny why they wanted to know her opinion regarding Trump...a loaded question for many...why did they detain her for hours?...seems rather odd...
Mindset? Our laws...which aren't Sharia.
the grass is always greener.head banger
i am not political at all. i would be stumped if i entered another country and they asked what i thought about their leader.
well I agree, its not right......
but nor either is it if a leader doesn't protect his people if and when can.
Ash

She has a Canadian passport...she also been in our country for over 20 years...repeat not a threat...she has visited the US many times as well...
What do you mean by Canada not vetting?...If you gained access into Canada by citizenship...you have passed clearance...

confused

Is it because she is brown and a Muslim?...dunno
March stats on crossings and Canadian policies adjusting, vetting and demographics

her timing is unfortunate in that it has Begun, whether travelers will be inconvenienced.
you see airport terminal complaints..all borders, forms of travel will be delayed and revised.
Ash

There is no sharia law here...lol...laugh

Most Muslims are peaceful...and just want to cross border shop like most Canadians do...lol...laugh
Lou, regardless if the motivation of anyone coming in to any country.
The rules apply to all.

Anyways I agree with Ash, vetting is the key.

Tourism Lou can't be an excuse for lacking proper vetting.
Not that shopping us not a valid reason, there's plenty of great stores in Canada, I might add.
Itchy

They should not be allowed to ask such questions as what do they think about Trump...they should just ask straight forward questions as your intention to come into USA but I am sure some border guards like flexing their muscle...dunno
M. Witch, I agree. Protection can't be taken for granted.

We can't ever be over protected. These volatile and explosive times are obviously shaping up our directions as a country and as a citizen.
Rules apply to all but what does someone think about the president have to do with anything?

This is bullshxtttt
or shopping, at the precise time of revision. She's kinda' oblivious to political climates- is it not just an excuse to
complain about another country.Press loves to think it's a statement-it's boring and usually exaggerated.

I bet she knows how much money is required to enter Canada as a non-citizen.Most don't know you can't
just wave and drive into Canada like a toll booth,to shop there.rolling on the floor laughing
Ash

Pardon my misunderstanding...about border crossing...

The people ending up in Canada...are claiming refugee status...the other unfortunate refugee claimants have suffered from frost bite and have no fingers left to speak of due to the shear cold of the winter there in Manitoba...why they chose to endanger their life I have no idea...

I am sure all that cross our border will be treated with respect and if there are any fed flags...it will be properly investigated...

Remember Canada has a comprehensive vetting process regarding the Syrian refugees...

wine
I meant red flags...lol...laugh
Ash

I went to the U.S. for vacationing, to meet up with friends, to shop, to discover your way of life..etc

Shopping is what most of my friends go to the U.S. to do...many stuff is in Jamaica but variety is the spice of life..

To be asked what I think about the president is bull..it is implying that anyone who doesn't like the president should be seen as an outcast...

I don't think much of my president so if anyone doesn't, that's a personal concept.
considering the number of brown people crossing, it's good news that only one person got a story.
exactly my point,a wealthy inconvenienced Canadian citizen needs the bypass lane during the exodus from US,
as weather is warming up the numbers are increasing.Spring break travel's a nightmare. It has everything
to do with all travelers wanting a fun experience vs. a different life. This is cross purposes.Apples 'n Oranges.
My

There are more stories out there...the Canadian Girl Guides will not travel down to the US due to the risk of having all their members not being allowed to enter...that is right children...

So this year the Girl Guides stay within Canada...

doh
It should go without saying- my concern, empathy is not for shoppers but for refugees.: thumbsup:
Lind

Listen to yourself...lol...laugh

A Middle aged married women with children is not a threat to US National Security!

Did you know her young son finally finished chemotherapy and she wanted to treat him to a day of shopping to the US to pick out a gift...

Only to be questioned and held for hours...doh

She was frightened and confused...she knew she did not do anything wrong...but her religion was questioned as well as her opinion about Trump...

Sad really...sigh
Free now that's a very good observation. Lou, has to take note because of the general perception most Pro Trump has, including me on our safety.

Not that I favor the question about our president. For all I care, it's irrelevant. They can easily lie but I'm sure, we employ every possible means for safety.
Lou, did I ever say she's a threat?
Your mission on putting up this blog is to expose how a Muslim woman's denied when in fact all she wants is to come to shop.

Wait, didn't I say what you're putting in question us how appallingly questionable our system if approving tourist, right?

You mentioned how low our tourism is affected.

Don't twist my posts Lou.
Free that's a very good simile, perhaps the guard is over zealous, but like I said, you can't ever truly be careful on this job.

I give trust with them that they're doing well, in line with the new Presidents order.

As far as Lou us concerned maybe we should never protect our borders.

Lou are you following up with the mess in Europe?
fact is times have changed, they are more dangerous than when I was a kid(long time ago) never heard of terrorism then. the borders have to be tightened . that the way it seems to be going. you have to change with times good, bad or what ever.
it's means we have persons incoming for surgeries being detained as well. They just fixed a toddler
that needed our surgeons.Wish we could walk a mile in everyone's shoes but kindness happens when you need
it the most.in real ways, not over the web, post a video ways.
We don't lack compassion but how could she have had a better shopping experience?
It's not a Disneyland World...yikes,people who are experiencing terminal illnesses,or permanent
disabilities are risking a lot to have that great memory or bonds strengthened by traveling which is inherently
stressful with an ideal itineria. something's aren't really political when the days over and done.it is how
you use it to get to some peace finally.sometimes move on,or find what you need another way.
people step up and help, they do.apologies are needed m'be,hugs,or leaning on a shoulder.
venting is sort of dicey these days;.polarizing topics -but people care is you let them.
you sort of missed my point. i would hope that people who hold a border job are trained well. better training than Walmart, where I had to have training to perform my job. i can't say that the border guard was being unfair because i wasn't there. all i know is that one can't make a proper evaluation without asking the questions and being provided with the proper documents. criminals have all skin colors and i'm sure the guards have seen plenty of brown, white, black, and shades of people. i don't think they hatched into a sterile world populated by white people.

Not surprised as the son of Mohamed Ali was detained and questioned in Florida about 2 weeks ago, even as to his choice of his name... There may be yet a backlash from the many Black Muslim communities....
Amazon.com is the way to go, i'm telling you...
Katte

Yes...it appears that some US citizens are being questioned as well...a bit too much fear regarding Muslims in general...

Hopefully this fear will die down and Americans can breathe again...Happy shopping everyone...

Itchy

You have a right to your opinion...thanks for commenting...

As I see it...they did not like her prayers that she had on her phone...and that she is a practicing Muslim...that is why she was denied entry...

I wish the Canadian American friendship will still be maintained...despite such fear of terrorism and illegals...
