Good Friday April 14........1865

152 years ago today was also Good Friday.
That evening, Abraham Lincoln attended a performance of the play 'Our American Cousin' at Ford's Theater.
He was shot during the performance and died the next morning, April 15, 1865.

Exactly 47 years later, the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg on the night of April 14 and sank the morning of April 15.

For the record, April 14, 1912 was NOT Good Friday. It was the first Sunday after Easter.

Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth, was familiar with the play and timed his shot to coincide with the play's biggest laugh line, delivered by actor Henry Hawks...

"Well, I guess I know enough to turn you inside out, Old Gal, you sockdologizing old man-trap!"

daydreamIf the U.S. would've had laws against plays being staged on Good Friday back in 1868...Lincoln would still be alive.

Little known Titanic trivia...

The good ship was carrying a load of salad dressing ultimately bound for Mexico.
Mexico established an annual commemoration of the loss. sad

The Titanic NEVER SANK!! shock

YouTube Titanic: The Ship That Never Sank? Alltime Conspiracies

According to this story, anyway. dunno

So the trick is not to either attend a play, get shot or not get hit by an iceberg today? writing

I think I might just manage that laugh
As noted in the above vid roll eyes Titanic was one of three Olympic class ships, and the first of the class, Olympic, was involved in a collision with a British Navy ship.

The third in the class, Britannic, was pressed into World War I service as a hospital ship. It sank during the war in 1916.

Violet Jessup was employed by the White Star Line as a maid.
During World War I she served as a nurse...aboard the Britannic.

She's the only person who was aboard all three ships when they collided/sunk.
During the sinking of the Britannic, the ship lurched and hit her on the head. She credited her thick auburn hair grin with saving her life.
Many years later, an x-ray revealed that the incident had actually fractured her skull, unbeknownst to her!

Undeterred, she continued to work at sea until her retirement in the 1950s.
This begs the question, "What company would hire such a 'Jonah'?!"

Some time after retiring, Violet received a phone call asking if she'd been given a baby just before her lifeboat was lowered away from Titanic.
She confirmed that she had, indeed, been handed a baby.
The caller identified himself as that baby.

Miclee As you know, Easter changes, all to do with Astronomy, and the moon. Interesting blog.
Easter in Ireland is either cold and rainy [as in Dublin today ] or you get sunburnt. I love the festival, like Christmas it is for kids, Easter Eggs hidden. I only got one. Now the little obese brats get dozens .

laugh
Thanks for the historical significance Mic.

Yes gloss. Easter is a moveable feast. It falls on the 1st Sunday following the 1st full moon after the Vernal Equinox. dancing

Have you ever wondered why Easter eggs are left by a rabbit...or Mother Goose (which makes a bit more sense than a rabbit if you think 'bout it)...
