SAVE ASIA BIBI - Resistance Int'l ~ UPDATE 5/08/19

The vid below presents the plight of Asia Bibi. She's lived in the shadow of a noose for seven years.
It's not long; less than 11 minutes.

But for international attention & pressure brought upon the government, she would most probably have already been hanged.

This is an issue in which people can become involved.
A worldwide petition has been circulated demanding she not be executed, and released.

Involvement NOW by groups advocating for her life to be spared could prove decisive.
What may be her final hearing before the Supreme Court is upcoming this June.

Mic and String,

I totally agree that this is ridiculous!!!sad flower
Ridiculous, Jim?
Yeah. That it is. Absolutely.

That said, 'obscenity' or 'atrocity' are arguably more accurate terms.

Agree with you Mic.

What a crazy, unjust world. sad flower
@ string...

In the vid, Dr. Zacharias is asked to comment on the difference between radical & moderate Muslims.

In fairness, two officials (at least one of whom was Muslim) spoke out in defense of Asia.
Both were assassinated.
One asserted he'd rather die than give up his principles...mere days before his life was, indeed, taken.
These were extraordinarily good men of principle & courage, IMO.
They are acknowledged as such in the Resistance International vid.

The assassin of one of the men was tried, convicted & hanged.
He was regarded as a hero by large numbers of people; his funeral sparked a mass showing of support for his act.
The judge who sentenced him was forced into hiding in fear for his own life.

It's been recognized that a deterrent to Asia being allowed to live be set free is officials' fear for their own lives, and those of their family members...
"Why should I get killed (or get MY family killed) for a woman who's gonna eventually hang anyway?"

I get that. I appreciate their position.
I'll admit it - I'd ask myself that question, were I in their position.

It's been observed there are three types of Muslim...

The radicals.
Those who support the radicals/remain silent.
The dead.

Update - 10/12/18

It is reported that Asia Bibi has had her final appeal.
It is claimed a verdict on whether or not she will hang has been reached, but has not been announced.

Fundamentalist factions may have warned that if she does not hang there could be 'consequences'/'repercussions'.
That may be understood to mean threats against the well-being of the Justices in whose hands her fate rests...

I hope her conviction will be overturned, and she'll not hang.
If such is the decision - my respect to the Justices...
And my sincerest best wishes for their continued well-being.

Social justice warrior
"SJW" redirects here. For other uses, see SJW (disambiguation).

"Social justice warrior (SJW)...
...is a pejorative term for an individual who promotes socially progressive views, including feminism, civil rights, and multiculturalism, as well as identity politics. The accusation that somebody is an SJW carries implications that they are pursuing personal validation rather than any deep-seated conviction, and engaging in disingenuous arguments."

That's an excerpt from a lengthy article, which states it was originally neutral or positive.

There may be other definitions which might describe the term as less - or more - 'perjorative'.

Earlier this year, I used 'SJW' when talking among a group of people.
One guy asked what it meant (as you did).
He identified with being an SJW; he didn't find it perjorative.

'Perjorative' may be too strong of a term.
'Tongue in cheek' sounds less demeaning/abrasive, and may be more accurate.
IMO

Okay, thanks Mic.

So, it's a way of categorising a group of people which may be used in a positive, neutral, or negative way without having to recognise individuality, or maybe humanity.

A bit like the way the words 'Christian', or 'Muslim' are used.

batting
Ms jac, I see the SJW as another 'ism', akin to fascism, communism, relativism or marxism, which is represented by their feminism and multiculturalism characteristics. I don't see any relationship to 'Christian' and or 'muslim' as one is a religion while the other is........
She will be free. I have faith. I think there is somewhere in the Bible saying ask or pray in faith. I think it says to be positive.
Usha & ep...

She may be freed because what usha prays for might be answered in the manner ep described.

"...moves in mysterious ways His wonders to perform."

Should she be freed, many are urging Western countries to take in her, her hubby & their kids as refugees thumbs up

Reportedly, a verdict has been reached, but not made public.
I see this as a possibly good sign.

Threats have been made against the Justices should she be shown leniency.
Release of the verdict may be delayed to provide for the safety of the Justices and their families.

There would be sound reason for so doing.
A few years ago, a former governor advocated leniency for her
He subsequently died in a hail of gunfire from a security guard...

"Those two assassinated officials are what an SJW really is."

Well said, Ches handshake
They define SJW in the finest sense of the word; far better than a Wikipedia article ever could.

So, an SJW might once have been described as 'resistance'?

Some risked their lives, some lost their lives, some were part of a team, some acted alone, some made small acts of resistance, even just in their thoughts which no one could see.

Which ones were not real?
Oh, I forgot to mention all those who resisted by surviving. Were they not real?
Depending upon what is being resisted, 'resistance' of itself doesn't equate directly to SJW...

"'I think there is resistance to the idea of fair trial in Pakistan, particularly for sensitive issues like corruption, terrorism and other serious crimes,' she told Al Jazeera. 'This has grown in the age of social media, where public outrage has reversed the premise of a fair trial - that of the presumption of innocence.'"

Resistance to the concepts of 'fair trial' and 'presumption of innocence' under pressure of 'public outrage' is inconsistent with Social Justice Warfare.
IMO

The above except was lifted from this article...

It is a look at the system that has put 4,688 people on death row - 1/4 of persons in the world awaiting execution (of which Asia Bibi is but one) and executed nearly 500 since 2015 - 1/8 of the number put to death worldwide.

I highly recommend the Al-Jazeera article.
It is informative and very well worth the read.
IMO

cowboy
The Al-Jazeera reporter, Asad Hashim, who wrote the article and it's editorial staff that chose to publish it can, in my opinion, be included among the ranks of SJWs in the finest sense of the word.

Neither perjorative nor tongue in cheek.

There are few things more ridiculous than killing someone over religion, race, or ethnicity.

I cannot understand what is being said; the title claims it's a protest against the possible release of Asia Bibi.

The message on a banner suggests it's not desired we see certain things on YouTube.

Perhaps some history will put things in perspective.

About the time this blog was posted, there were others on which people were expressing concern about other situations.
When the situation which became the subject of this blog was raised on one of those blogs, it was dismissed quite casually...excused & condoned.

This blog was then put up to draw attention to the issue.
The concern expressed on the other blog - and its conspicuous absence on this one - might suggest comments were posted primarily for 'self validation' and the arguments were 'disingenuous'.

In such context, SJW might be used in a sense of the word other than the finest -
'tongue in cheek', one might say.

When I heard news that Asia Bibi's case had its final appeal and a verdict was pending, I posted s comment here to again raise awareness of her plight.
Depending upon the verdict, it may be the last opportunity to do so.

I might note - the SJWs referred to in my earlier comment are as conspicuously absent now as they were then.

Yes. The issue is complex.
That is brought out in background information provided in the Al-Jazeera article cited and suggested for reading in my comment above roll eyes

I owe you, jac.
Based upon views and comments, your input has elicited more than twice the interest as I did by posting the blog.

As a matter of interest, what was the other blog?

Perhaps a PM if you don't want to say here.

I don't recall seeing a similar blog, so maybe it was just a matter of timing. dunno
tip hat MiMi

I've been trying to remember that, jac.
It's been quite awhile.

In a sense, my offhand SJW comment may have been relevant when it was posted, but is less so at this time.

I cannot recall the OP or topic of the other blog; it may have been an instance of a blog straying from the original topic and meandering into off-topic subject matter.
It happens.

The blogger(?)/commenter(?) with whom the exchange primarily took place hasn't been seen here for some considerable time... perhaps came & went during your hiatus.

Bringing up the name of a blogger/commenter who's not actively blogging - or may have left CS altogether dunno - would seem, at this point, to be pointless gossip about someone not willing/able to join the present discussion...a discussion of which the person may not even be aware.

I did not post a comment here to reopen that specific exchange.
I did so to re-raise the subject in the OP.

I was motivated to re-raise the subject now because I'd heard on broadcast news that the plight of Asia Bibi may be approaching resolution - one way or the other.
And, as noted in a previous comment, depending upon how the issue is resolved -this may be the last opportunity to do so.

cowboy
Okay, I'm a little muddled about the history and sequence of events, but no matter.

Something in my own discussion history keeps coming back to me: A friend once expressed her disgust at some news footage of Eastern extremists celebrating the execution, or death of a person, or persons. I can't exactly recall, but I think it was one of those many hostage beheading situations.

It was at about the time Saddam Hussein was executed which was widely celebrated in the West, so I asked if 'we' hadn't exhibited the exact same behaviour.

We may look at Asia Bibi's case and say it's ridiculous, but we perhaps fail to introspect and acknowledge our own ridiculousness.

In the same way all acts of resistance against humanity contribute to an end result, so do all acts of resistance to humanity. Unless each of us takes responsibility for evolving our our own behaviour, we will find ourselves inadvertently contributing to and supporting acts of inhumanity.

If I want change, I have to start with me. Only then may I impact upon others with acts of humanity, or resistance against inhumanity.

Appeals Edit

"On 16 October 2014 the Lahore High Court dismissed Noreen's appeal and upheld her death sentence. On 20 November 2014, her husband appealed to Pakistan's President for clemency. On 24 November 2014, her lawyer appealed to the Supreme Court.

"On 22 July 2015 the Supreme Court of Pakistan suspended Bibi's death sentence for the duration of the appeals process. In November 2015, Bibi's lead attorney, Naeem Shakir, announced that, after two postponements in 2015, the Lahore High Court would hear an appeal in Bibi's case on 26 March 2016. The hearing was rescheduled for 13 October 2016, but on that morning when it was the turn of the case "Asia Bibi against the state", one of the three members of the bench of judges of that section -Iqbal Hameedur Rehman- refused to be part of the bench, which led to the postponement of the hearing to an undetermined date. The Judge later resigned in a handwritten letter addressed to Mamnoon Hussain, the President of Pakistan, without stating any specific reasons for his resignation. On 26 April 2017, chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar declined a request for the hearing of the case of Asia Bibi in the first week of June made by her Muslim lawyer Saiful Malook."

Mr mic, your blog I inspired the acquittal and release of Asia today. Don't think for a minute that Trump's response to the death of the Saudi journalist had nothing to do with her release.
Mic,wave

thank you for the bible verse. I meant this one. I believed.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Mark 11: 24

Just thankful! A mother, a wife, a woman is reunited with her family.

Even the people who don't believe in the bible can believe, if you create positive vibes, you will always get positive results.

I should rather talk to my own hand than talking of positive energy here in blogs.

I hope she finds peace and happiness.
Thanks for the heads up, sea.
I heard it on the news some time after you posted your comment.

you're welcome, usha.

Good news, indeed!

The vid praises the 'boldness' of Muslim members of Pakistan's Supreme Court.
I add my admiration for their personal courage tip hat

I hope the arrangements can be made. Keep praying, usha.

As noted in the vid, Asia is but one person.
Concern remains for many more - including Muslims sad flower

The problem with politics...far right political and religious views create a hateful bunch...no matter what religion...ignorant masses ensue and the corrupt governments exact their power...all just a power play...greed at the center of it all...keep them ignorant and fearful...

Trump knows this well...
I listened to the ins and outs of it last week on the tele
Alex Jones popped up in the Deplorables vid for like 1/10 of a second.
That oughta get her triggered very mad
