how we are being dumbed down

I have not even given this a lot of thought and I do not even know if there is a point to this. I think perhaps it is just to stimulate possible postulating. I just started a new book and only on chapter one. It has to do with physics and its link to Eastern Mysticism. The little bit I have read has gotten me thinking a bit. I was fascinated to hear that mathematics is a language of nature, only thing with symbols. Also how our spoken language is only a guide of sorts to efficiently understand one another. It would take way to long to describe every aspect of a tree, or a person. Not to mention, it would be impossible...so we use tree or person to describe that object. This is all we are taught to care about and understand. But what is a person? ...or a tree for that matter. Both are made up of matter and both have this mysterious energy force connected to them.

Okay, this is just about as far as I got with my thinking...lol.

But,

I left the best for last. At least to me it is, there was a saying I read in the book.

"The map is not the territory."

It is like we are taught how to identify and read the map, but we never go seeking for the territory.

One of my favourite quotes from ancient masters:

Confucius was walking through a forest with two students, when he asks 'If you could be one tree which tree would you be?'

One student replies 'I would be the tree that is tall and straight, that way I could be made in to lots of furniture'
The other student says 'I would also like to be the tall straight tree, I could then be a mast for a boat'

Confucius adds 'I would like to be the tree that is all bent and deformed'

'Why?' His students ask that is a good for nothing tree.

Confucius replies 'This good for nothing tree will live out its natural life and not be cut down in its prime'

Or something to that effect. I get called a good for nothing all the time, because I work a low paid job and do my own thing (I am of the opinion sufficient is enough). Whilst my friends all chose to be professional workers doing stressful, demanding jobs. They are mostly bald, grey and old before their time, whilst I think I look young for my age, am not stressed and still have natural coloured hair. Ha ha ha!

These old masters definitely knew a thing or two, just from observing nature. The western world is only just catching up.
